View Full Version : Same Sex Civil Unions legal in England now?

I dont have a news link to back this up or anything, but i hear that England approved a Same-Sex civil union deal. If so, i think that's a huge step towards a possible victory in the USA (Maybe in 4 years though). I dont think the gay-rights activists are looking for marriage rights, but more just the financial stuff, which civil unions give. Lets hope americans get their heads out of thier asses.

This may have been posted already but i didnt see it

here's one (http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/national/apeurope_story.asp?category=1103&slug=Britain%20Gay%20Partnerships)

Boy I am sure glad that won't happen here. I mean two people of the same sex that love each other and want the same financial and legal status will surely destroy my marriage!

i've always said, if straights can be miserable with the one they love, then gays should have the same right! :)

my divorce practice would double, and think of all the awesome custody battles i could be working on! quite frankly, i'd start pushing pre-nup's and pre-signing planning in that kind of situation. the legislature has royally screwed up the divorce and custody laws in most states for straight couples, so it only make sense for gay couples to do their own planning and leave as little to the legislature and courts as possible.

Love is not a gender bias...The Top 12 Reasons Same-Sex Marriage Won't Work:

1. Homosexuality is not natural, much like eyeglasses, polyester, and birth control.

2. Heterosexual marriages are valid because they produce children. Infertile couples and old people can't legally get married because the world needs more children.

3. Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

4. Straight marriage will be less meaningful, since Britney Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage was meaningful.

5. Heterosexual marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all--women are property, blacks can't marry whites, and divorce is illegal.

6. Gay marriage should be decided by people, not the courts, because the majority-elected legislatures, not courts, have historically protected the rights of the minorities.

7. Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion* are imposed on the entire county. That's why we have only one religion in America.

8. Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

9. Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

10. Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why single parents are forbidden to raise children.

11. Gay marriage will change the foundation of society. Heterosexual marriage has been around for a long time, and we could never adapt to new social norms much as we haven't been able to adapt to cars or longer life expectancies.

12. Civil unions, providing most of the same benefits as marriage with a different name are better, because a "separate but equal" institution is always constitutional. Separate schools for African-Americans worked just as well as separate marriages for gays and lesbians will.

*not every Christian denomination opposes homosexuality, so there

...I'm not saying each is a valid point, but it does offer something to think about.

12 crap points

I started thinking about those points and it made my head hurt trying to see any reason behind any of them. Then, I started vomiting blood. After cleaning that mess up, I divorced my wife and engaged in meth fueled bare back anal sex with some guy who told me he was 'probably clean'. Maybe later, I'll move to England and marry my cat and lawnmower.

Don't you hate it when that happens?

What scares me is that so many people really believe this tripe.

Yeah, his name was Senator Rick Santorum of Penn. But with his wonderful wit came a second honor, his last name became a slang term...

Here's a thought: Fuck any benefit for any married/civil unionized people of any kind. Then you can marry your shoe for all I care, just file separate tax returns.

Bachelors unite! To the barricades, ye spinsters!

Throw in health care and you've got a deal. Keep the tax breaks for kids. They cost a lot. And let divorced people split the kid credit! Geesh. I'm getting killed on that deal.

Well, maybe not shoes. :)

get the government out of the marrying business... period.
if you want to get married go to your place of worship, otherwise set up a social contract with some legal authority (say a justice of the peace) and call all of those contracts civil unions. at that point, who cares who you sign a contract with(its a legal matter not a societal concern), and if your local place of worship cares that much about who you sign a contract with, then its up to you to make a decision about that place of worship.

Anywhere you like :)

no really... I'm glad England finally has done this. Now america on the other hand. If we were to do this, it'd be redneck rampage of the third kind. You'd start seeing flying pitchforks playing musical notes, and Richard Dreyfus would be in there somewhere. Not to mention those wonderful people in white cloaks with pointy hoods. And oh oh oh oh guys in blue suits with shotguns with something like N.R.A. patches on their chest.

Yes, but since god gave America to the Christians, and the Bible says hate gays, then god will punish America if it allows gay marriage!

Oh crap… we’re all doomed.
