How'd the Bee Gees get in there? Aren't they all British?

I'd have to go with these for the top 5:

‘Heroes’ David Bowie
‘London Calling’ The Clash
‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’ Joy Division
‘That's Entertainment’ The Jam
‘Sledgehammer’ Peter Gabriel

I don't know if "Dry Your Eyes" is one of the best 25 UK singles of all time, but I love the fact that The Streets made the list.

i should be shot for knowing this...Barry Gibb was born in Manchester, Robin and Maurice Gibb were born at the Isle of Man. The Gibbs emigrated to Brisbane in the 50s.

meaning that the Gibbs are brits by birth.

Wait just a second. Last 25 years?

"Night Fever" was out no later than 1977, as it appeared in the film of that year, "Saturday Night Fever."

Can I get a confirmation on this?

i just had the biggest brain fart when reading this:

Wait just a second. Last 25 years?

"Night Fever" was out no later than 1977, as it appeared in the film of that year, "Saturday Night Fever."

i thought, 1977 was 25 years ago....

Hmm, we do owe those whinging Poms a round for some cool tuneage ...

In terms of artistic impact, I'd have to choose : Bowie, Joy Division, The Clash, Kate Bush, and Queen. Todays radio wouldn't be the same without their contributions. Check the number of cover versions for each of these ...

But, the tunes that I could listen to over and over again :

‘Golden Brown’ The Stranglers
‘London Calling’ The Clash
‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’ Joy Division
‘That's Entertainment’ The Jam
‘Sledgehammer’ Peter Gabriel

Songs I'd add :

"Come on Eileen" Dexy's Midnight Runners
"Our House" Madness
"God Save the Queen" Sex Pistols

or even something from Van Morrison ?

Radiohead ?

my picks:

"Wonderwall"- Oasis (of course)
"Love Will Tear us Apart" - Joy Division (I feel everyone agrees this song is phenomenal)
"Heroes" - David Bowie
"Holding Back the Years" - Simply Red (sappy, but good)
"London Calling" - The Clash

although i feel a smiths or cure song should have been included in there..i mean david gray? are you freakin kiddin? i don't know if "Sheila Take a Bow" or "Lullaby" were offically released though..
