View Full Version : Bush wins Ohio......again.

after including 70% of the 150,000+ provisional ballots and all the properly received absentee ballots into the count, Ohio has certified an almost 119,000 vote margin for Bush in the Nov. 2 election (2% margin). That's about a 17,000 vote difference from the election night count, and reflects most of the provisional ballots that were cast.
So, as morons chase their tails with recounts and lawsuits, i ask you this.......will any of it matter? I mean, 70% of the provisional ballots were allowed, which is really high. It's pretty clear Blackwell bent over backwards to include as many provisional ballots as possible, and still Kerry only picked up 17,000 votes when all was said and done. Seems like a lost cause to me, and the current taxpayer estimate for the recount is 1.5 million dollars. Anyone wanna bitch about how many homeless that'd feed? Ohio really doesn't have that money to spend, so it's gotta come from somewhere.....

But yes, the recount thing was stupid. Bush won, like it or not.

Agreed.
As an Ohioan, and more importantly, an American, that did not vote for George W. Bush, I do concede that a lot of people did and he is the president until 2008 (technically January 2009, but who's counting).
Until then, I will tread water until a more capable president, Democrat, Republican or Independent (hopefully) is elected.
On a side note, isn't great the crux of this message board is music and nonsense again, rather than spiteful political swipes at each other.
To celebrate that fact, here is a pic of Larry "Bud" Melman dressed like Jack White!

wow. talk about reactionary. my point duefrost was this.......at this point, with nearly all the provional ballots counted, with all the absentee ballots in, with there not being enough votes in the remaining uncounted provisional ballots to matter even if all of them went to Kerry, why should the taxpayers be forced to pay millions of dollars for a futile, useless recount when the 2% margin doesn't trigger the automatic recount provisions.......
badnarik and crew raised about $136,000. that's less then 10% of the actual cost. the rest falls to the taxpayers.....at some point, you have to let go of the irrational hate and "at all cost" mentality and say "ok, we lost." can you do that? likely not. what exactly is the recount supposed to prove? i mean, in Fla., after the recount in the cherrypicked counties that Gore wanted, Bush wound up picking up 300 or so votes. Ohio has adequately dealt with the "hanging chad" issue via statute, so we're not gonna see reams of ballots being sifted through by hand and fat guys in glasses scrutinizing the "intent" of the voter.
Soooooooo.......other than exercising your demons, what is this recount gonna prove? (love my play on words? frost and due will never exorcise their demons, they just like to give them a workout!:)

It just proves that the votes count...that the election is on the up and up. With what is going on in the Ukraine, you'd think there was little bitching and moaning about recounts and legitimate voting practices. Kerry conceded...I don't think anyone is looking to replace Bush with a recount...we just want a recount. I really think the demand for the recount rests on Bush's insistence in 2000, that counting votes didn't matter.
Also, with these "demons" of which you speak....how long are the neocons gonna wack off on the tune of "Liberals are angry, Liberals, hate, and Liberals just can't get over the loss of the election"? I don't know anyone who is wallowing in pain or sadness over the election, but you can best the likes of Sean Hannity continue to present the liberals as haters of America...I think he is even going on a tour to push this lie.

Apparently some people dont agree with you opinion that Blackwell "bent over backward" and there have been enough irregularities within the election process in ohio (over counts in franklin and sandusky counties, under counts in kettering and morain, unsubstantiated terrorist rumors closing the vote counting in warren to name a few link (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6368819/) ) that these challangers would like a recount to ensure that all votes are recorded correctly and accuratly, democrat, republican or independant.

I don't think of it as a recount with hopes of overturning a close vote. I think of it more as an audit-- and one that would be just as necessary if the vote had been 60-40. And I hope they carry it out in that spirit.
With all the controversy surrounding vote counts, and the fact that the process hasn't been closely examined in a long time I think this is something you need to do-- hopefully one time only.
And take the results from this and figure out where to improve the system and carry out future assessments in a less costly manner (maybe recount X random districts every election).

This all such a waste of time. I mean, I was a big Kerry supporter, too, but I really think it's time to let it go and focus on the future (as bleak as it is with Dumbass on for another four). And to come up with creative ways to say "Don't blame me, I voted for Kerry" when things start happening.
But this recount thing did get me to wondering. What would have happened if the recount revealed definitively that Kerry, in fact, won Ohio? I mean, he already conceeded. It's not like Kerry can suddenly take over for Bush after he's already settled in, can he?

The Dems out here (the state of Washington) are funding a recount for the Govenor's race out of their own pockets (and it will be the third recount) and it's getting ridiculous. You lost, get over it (this coming from a liberal-type)! It's making the party, and especially the loser, look real bad. It's the first Republican Gov. the state's had in more than 2 decadesl so I can see why the Dems are a little upset about giving up the position, but they should have brought out a better candidate (plus, the margin of victory was only 42 votes--all this over 42 votes, and that's the margin that's come up the past 2 recounts).

I agree, it is time to accept that Bush won in Ohio.
Ohio is a fairly Republican state, so the Dems didnt do too bad to keep Bush down to a 2% win. So, even tho they lost, a respectible fight by the Dems.

In principle I agree with Frost, why does recounting hurt, but in reality the recount is a political ploy so I don't support it. Also, as I've said before, recounts of a flawed process are not any more accurate than the original count.
I say we go to a consistent voting procedure and then audit the vote after each election by randomly sampling the results.

Did you know: in the 1976 Presidential election Jimmy Carter won Ohio by about 6,000 votes and he won Hawaii by about 1,000?! Ford refused to call for a recount even though his party wanted it done. Ford didn't want to delay the election system and cause unease in America.
Had a recount changed the votes in Ohio and Hawaii, Gerald Ford would have one the Presidency by one electoral vote. weird...
And did you know this: even though he wasn't even running for President in 1976, Ronald Reagan was given one of the State of Washington's nine electoral votes.
Not sure how that happed, but had Ford won the election, the country might have been sick of Republican Presidents and not elected Reagan in 1980. In other words, no Carter; maybe no Reagan.
(Ford could not have run again in '80 because he was President for most of what would have been Nixon's second four-year term.)

I support the recount BUT as an audit on the accuracy of our voting systems and the DIEBOLD machines.
I don't agree with the whole "Get over it and move on" attitude. That's what happened in Florida in 2000, AND had there been more attention paid to the theft of the election, we wouldn't all be here talking about how bleak the next 4 years will be.
I will say though, that ALTHOUGH I support the recount, I do think that Bush won THIS time..
The thing is that liberals and those on the left have a problem with delayed reaction. We KNEW that the Diebold machines would create problems last year but failed to do anything then.. NOW, while the energy and attention is being turned over to the recount, we have an attack of Fallujah killing hundreds of innocent Iraqi civilians and a couple dozen U.S. Soldiers, there's an investegation into Pat Tillman's killing in Iraq, the American Taliban is moving forward and succeeding with their agenda, the Bush cabinet is being made up of loyalists and critics of his administration are being silenced now more than ever.
AND He is claiming a "MANDATE FOR HIS AGENDA" because he won by 3 percent of the popular vote. 3 FUCKING Percent!

So what would have happened if a recount finds the defeated candidate took a disputed state after all?
