I liked the clown that threw boomerang fish. You didn't see him too often but he was my favorite. He was kind of like the Steve Buscemi (spelling?) of the Muppets.
I also liked the Swedish Cheff, The grumpy old men in the balcony, and I always wanted to see Gonzo bang a chicken.

Big fan of Beeker and some of the other more minor ones, but I just love Rolf. He makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. He's just got that, "Yeah, it's all good." Ooh, and trivia, he's the oldest Muppet.
Great ivory tickler too.

I liked Beeker the best.... I was afraid of the old guys in the balcony (I really don't know why) Maybe because they were always so grumpy? I had nightmares about them when I was a kid.
The best ones on Sesame Street were those little creatures that lived in the windowbox with Ernie's flowers....they were sooo cool.

The doodle bugs!!! I loved those guys! Also on sesame street, the honkers, the two-headed purple monster, and those alien guys who went 'yipyipyipyipyipyipyipyip......wahhhaaaa, waaahaaaa.....yipyipyipyip....." (one was red, one was blue). they were awesome.
on the muppets, i too was a statler and waldorf fan, also the big eagle guy was cool. and PIGS IN SPACE!
but all in all, i looooved animal. good stuff. we used to sit and watch the muppet show with my dad. he loved it as much as my brother and i did.

Don't get me started on Sesame Street.......I'm an Elmo fanatic (though I have seriously toned it all down in the last 4 years). It used to be frightening......ask foolsgold or slow-dog. They know.....they know.

You have no idea how hard it is to have a sit down and realize that Elmo is staring at you. Instant constipation. "Elmo says, Christian makes hate paste..."
On the plus side, C-lando, your obsession is nowhere in the realm of my wife's Ernie collection. **Shudder** B&E shower curtain...

Are they still muppets if they're beyond Sesame Street? I'm going to pretend the only answer to that is yes.
So from Farsape, I love Pilot and Rygel XVI, Dominar of the Hynerian Empire. But I like Rygel best b/c he farts helium.
Also, the Skeksi (however the hell you spell that) from The Dark Crystal, esp. Chamberlain.

I have loved Oscar the Grouch since I first saw Sesame Street in 1969. In the early 70's my dad took me to a puppet convention in Boston where I met the original orange Oscar & his puppeteer Carrol Spinney.
Other favorite Muppets: Kermit, Sal the Monkey, Gonzo, Traveling Matt (a Fraggle), oh I just love 'em all!
One of the members of the Cincinnati Area Puppetry Guild was a
guest puppeteer on "Muppets Tonight"! She has lots of cool behind the scenes photos.
I will be marching in the Northside 4th of July parade with a GIANT puppet that I am building.

The really cool thing about the Doozers is that they were tiny mechanical puppets. I don't have my Muppets books in front of me right now, but the fellow who designed them was a bloody genius!
I wish Fraggle Rock would come out on DVD. There are 10 volumes of the "best" of the Muppet Show, but it's out of my price range right now. I think it's about $160 for the DVD box set.
Other puppets I love:
Beany & Cecil
Kukla & Ollie
Mr. Moose & Bunny Rabbit (Capt. Kangaroo)
the puppets on Pee Wee's Playhouse (like Pterry!)

I also loved Prairie Dawn from Sesame Street when I was little. Alice, Snuffy's baby cousin, was also cute. The Count is great to do impressions of. Whenever I'm cooking, I always lapse into Swedish Chef nonsense talk and start throwing food around . . . it's great.

well sort of: (from ToughPigs.com (http://www.toughpigs.com)):
Pittsburgh in the Springtime
Are you in Pittsburgh right now? You don't have to answer right away. Take a moment to look around, and see if it looks like Pittsburgh. Well, if it is in fact Pittsburgh, then you're in luck, cause the Pittsburgh Children's Museum is hosting a new exhibit called Can You Tell Me How To Get To Sesame Street? from February 15th to June 1st. The exhibit is based around a model of Sesame Street itself that kids can play in, and it also promises that "visitors of all ages can explore three adventurous decades of the legendary television show." It sounds pretty neat: "Sit on the brownstone steps of 123 Sesame Street, climb into Big Bird's Same and Different Nest, put on a puppet show using Muppet hand puppets..." I'd say that's worth a trip to Pittsburgh. Go check out the link for more information

Ol-One-Eye, It looks like you are almost as MAD about puppets as I am...and that's a wacky thing.
I think you should plan on attending puppetSLAM! Cincinnati in April. :D
FYI-"Meet The Feebles" was in NO way connected with Jim Henson/The Muppets/ et al. Peter "Lord of the Rings" Jackson was the director of this Muppets Show satire. Infact, one of Jim Henson's daughters tried to put a stop to the Feebles because she felt that people would think that it was a Henson production. Hmmmm, looks like she may have been correct. ;)

This might not count as a muppet BUT on the Muppet Babies there were Scooter and Skeeter - I believe Skeeter was a girl, or something -
I think there is a strong possiblilty that Skeeter is my favorite simply because she died somewhere along the road from being a baby to being a full-fledged muppet. She also upheld the muppet androgyny standard.
There were some pretty sweet ones on the Jim Henson Hour -
like, uh - Timrik the Gorf - the little guy that flew around with a helicopter for a tail who could shrink himself -
and there was a green guy that had a computer for a brain or something -
ALSO - almost every muppet in that one Storyteller episode where the guy was going to get dragged to hell if he didn't do something or other -- all those demons rocked it hard, as did the weird humanoid that was supposed to be 'death'
I think that's what that one was about...
doctort13
14 Feb 2003, 08:41 AM
I was tv-less when Storyteller & The Jim Henson Hour were being broadcast. I hope that when the pending sale of the Henson company is final, the new owners have the smarts to release ALL JH programs on DVD.
I never saw Muppet babies, I have a problem with cute-cuddly versions of anything. Although I have an idea for a tv series called "Washington Babies".;)

I think Kermit the Frog was the finest Muppet ever. He was the heart and soul of both Sesame Street and The Muppet Show. When they replaced him with Elmo (blech), I knew it was a sign of the apocolypse.
Grover, Gonzo, Fozzie and Bert 'n Ernie were always favorites, though really, the entire Muppet Show "cast" was great.

I can't choose a Muppet. It just isn't possible.
However, I think one of the most clever Muppets was Uncle Traveling Matt. He used to send his nephew, Gobo Fraggle, postcards and detailed anthropological descriptions of such exotic places as the library and grocery store. He also attempted to converse with fire hydrants and small mammals.

Yes, loved that book when I was little...but was always somewhat annoyed by Grover.

I posted a couple of my own Sesame Street doodles (http://trevour.blogspot.com/2006/08/sesame-treet.html) last month on my blogger.

It'd be hard to single out a favorite muppet, although I kind of identify with Beeker.
Least favorite muppet however, that would be the Talking Potty Elmo that my mother-in-law gave my daughter for her (my daughter's) 2nd birthday, complete with his own potty and removable pants. Is it healthy for my daughter to be taking Elmo's pants off, even if he does say he has to go potty? If it were up to me, Elmo would be sharing living quaters with Oscar the Grouch, if you catch my drift.

i'm with beeker also - funniest episode ever was when beeker got cloned umpteen times and there was dozens of beekers aimlessly running around causing chaos !

Perhaps I lack imagination, but I love Ernie.
I used to sing my boys to sleep to "I Don't Want to Live on the Moon."

the two old men muppets sitting above the dance floor making asides were my alltime favorites and have had the most impact on my life of almost any father figures I've ever had.

Of course! I'm also fond of "One of These Things is Not Like the Other". ;)
My kids were pretty tolerant of my singing abilities, though. I'm not sure I would subject anyone else to that! :p

Beeker.
I have decided to begin speaking like him in all work situations. Such a strategy would more than likely inject some of the most cogent and interesting ideas this place has seen in quite some time.

I wasn't kidding about Potty Elmo. Here's proof:

No, that's not my daughter.
Now, Potty Mouth Elmo, that I could go for: "Hee hee hee! That tickles, you dickhead!"
