I'm surprised no one has mentioned this yet (or maybe I just missed it).

The new Eminem video might be the most powerful artistic statement I've seen this year. I'm not a fan, but this is positively brilliant.

Go here for links (http://www.pike27.net/rfn/2004_10_24_old.html#109881906003834471)

"Mosh"

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America
And to the Republic for which it stands
One nation under God
Indivisible
It feels so good to be back....

Scrutinize every word, memorize every line
I spit it once, refuel, reenergize, and rewind
I give sight to the blind, mind sight through the mind
I ostracize my right to express when I feel it's time
It's just all in your mind, what you interpret it as
I say to fight you take it as I'm gonna whip someone's ass
If you don't understand don't even bother to ask
A father who has grown up with a fatherless past
Who has blown up now to rap phenomenon that has
Or at least shows no difficulty multi task
And juggling both, perhaps mastered his craft slash
Entrepreneur who has held long too few more rap acts
Who has had a few obstacles thrown his way through the last half
Of his career typical manure moving past that
Mister kiss his ass crack, he's a class act
Rubber band man, yea he just snaps back

Come along, follow me as I lead through the darkness
As I provide just enough spark, that we need to proceed
Carry on, give me hope, give me strength,
Come with me, and I won't stear you wrong
Put your faith and your trust as I guide us through the fog
Till the light, at the end, of the tunnel, we gonna fight,
We gonna charge, we gonna stomp, we gonna march through the swamp
We gonna mosh through the marsh, take us right through the doors

To the people up top, on the side and the middle,
Come together, let's all bomb and swamp just a little
Just let it gradually build, from the front to the back
All you can see is a sea of people, some white and some black
Don't matter what color, all that matters is we gathered together
To celebrate for the same cause, no matter the weather
If it rains let it rain, yea the wetter the better
They ain't gonna stop us, they can't, we're stronger now more then ever,
They tell us no we say yea, they tell us stop we say go,
Rebel with a rebel yell, raise hell we gonna let em know
Stomp, push up, mush, fuck Bush, until they bring our troops home come on just . . .

We gonna mosh through the marsh, take us right through the doors, come on

Imagine it pouring, it's raining down on us,
Mosh pits outside the oval office
Someone's trying to tell us something, maybe this is God just saying
we're responsible for this monster, this coward, that we have empowered
This is Bin Laden, look at his head nodding,
How could we allow something like this, Without pumping our fist
Now this is our, final hour
Let me be the voice, and your strength, and your choice
Let me simplify the rhyme, just to amplify the noise
Try to amplify the times it, and multiply it by six
Teen million people are equal of this high pitch
Maybe we can reach Al Quaida through my speech
Let the President answer on high anarchy
Strap him with AK-47, let him go
Fight his own war, let him impress daddy that way
No more blood for oil, we got our own battles to fight on our soil
No more psychological warfare to trick us to think that we ain't loyal
If we don't serve our own country we're patronizing a hero
Look in his eyes, it's all lies, the stars and stripes
They've been swiped, washed out and wiped,
And Replaced with his own face, mosh now or die
If I get sniped tonight you'll know why, because I told you to fight

So come along, follow me as I lead through the darkness
As I provide just enough spark, that we need to proceed
Carry on, give me hope, give me strength,
Come with me, and I won't stear you wrong
Put your faith and your trust as I guide us through the fog
Till the light, at the end, of the tunnel, we gonna fight,
We gonna charge, we gonna stomp, we gonna march through the swamp
We gonna mosh through the marsh, take us right through the doors

And as we proceed, to mosh through this desert storm, in these closing statements, if they should argue, let us beg to differ, as we set aside our differences, and assemble our own army, to disarm this weapon of mass destruction that we call our president, for the present, and mosh for the future of our next generation, to speak and be heard, Mr. President, Mr. Senator

that was fantastic.

eminem is so smart it hurts. everyone already knows he's lyrically brilliant, but you know, he DOES rap about more than killing his wife and his mom although a lot of people tend to not notice that. he has the power to speak to a very very LARGE group of people, and this power is something not a lot of people have. it's really good to see that he's using it to speak politically and to persuade people to take action.

eminem has the biggest set of balls on the planet. i'll always respect him on that fact alone.

I really like most of the message and the lyrics... but the tune bores me a bit...

Spacey, I completely agree. I must admit that I hate him with a passion. I truly dislike everything about him and I've never liked anything he's done. I watched the video because everybody and their brother was talking about it in the past few days so I linked to it on my laptop last night to see what all the fuss was about.

I WAS impressed with the video. There's no question it's smartly done. I even, for once, was impressed with the message of the song and that somebody with his level of fame would attempt this. I think it's safe to say that there aren't a lot of record labels who would really want to get behind this right now.

At the same time, I wasn't that impressed with the actual song. Maybe it came down to getting the video finished on time, but I guess I also wonder what good it really does to make something that is potentilally THIS powerful and get it leaked onto the net a week before the election. Something tells me that we won't see this on MTV and only so many people are going to catch it online.

If he really felt strongly about this, he could have fought for THIS to be the lead track off the album...instead of that worthless piece of shit single with the even more worthless video.

This isn't the first political piece he's done--a LOT of his stuff is extremely political. We As Americans, which is an even better song than this one, was released months ago. He's doing his part. Enough people are going to see this video... better than none.

The above link wouldn't get past the firewall here at work. If that one doesn't work for you, try this (http://boss.streamos.com/wmedia/interscope/eminem/encore/video/mosh-rev/000_mosh-rev.asx).

Lame beat, strong words.

There are more protest albums now than any time since the '60s.

Green Day, John Fogerty, Patti Smith, Steve Earle, the 'Rock Against Bush' series, Future Soundtrack for America, etc.... Not to mention countless hip-hop protest albums and all the record companies capitalizing on the "Vote For Change" tour.

Em's always been brilliant, but like alot of smart people he sold rap for the masses first. I could say I don't like his portrayal of women in a few songs, but it's obvious Eminem's upbringing didn't provide the best examples.

Glad to see he's worked thru the Mom-hate & gotten down to business.

If you haven't seen 8 Mile, check it out.

8 mile is fantastic for the rapping, mediocre to bad for the acting and plot execution.

Shivvy, they just played this vid on MTV2, I caught the end of it.

"other mc's are figments of my imagination, they don't need to be dissed, I just stop thinking about them and they cease to exist"

Immortal Technique doesn't fuck around.

This eminem pro-voting shit is lame.

I think that this video is brilliant and I give Eminem props for it..

BUT.. it doesn't really change my opinion of Eminem or any of his other stuff..

The only one of those albums that it is on a major label (and has really reached any kind of mainstream audience) is the Green Day. Patti Smith is too, but everything else is supported by smaller labels who are going to be more encouraging.

There are a lot more major label artists that were associated with the Vote For Change tour, but that is (in my mind anyway) a little different than an artist of his magnitude on one of the largest record companies in the world releasing a video that rails against Bushie. I don't think it will make much of a difference, but it is still a little surprising to me.

I agree, it's a weak song, but lyrically powerful, and the video is spectacular, much like the aforementioned Chronic Future vid....I'd rather hear this overplayed than "Just Lose It", which in my opinion, is his weakest single ever.

I bet Mos Def's is a bit more lively. Although I think Em's morose, repetitive tone is pitch-perfect for his message. Was really surprised by the end of the video as well. Expecting something more violent, I was pleasantly suprised by the picture of a sharp-suited Eminem leading a diverse group of young voters to the polls.

And then there's R.E.M., where Stipe has been half-rapping on Around The Sun. When's he's not mad about reaching the final straw, he's wishing truth were fiction.

"I Wanted To Be Wrong"

You know where I come from
You know what I feel
You're Yul Brenner Westworld
Reporting from the field.
I threw it into reverse,
Made a motion to repeal.
You kicked my legs from under me,
And tried to take the wheel.

I told you I wanted to be wrong,
But everyone is humming a song
That I don't understand.

Now I know that the sun has shined on my side of the street.
The basket of America, the weevils and the wheat.
The milk and honeyed congregation, scrubbed and apple-cheeked
Salute Apollo 13 from the rattle jewelry seats.

Mythology's seductive and it turned a trick on me
That I have just begun to understand.

I told you I wanted to be wrong,
But everyone is humming a song
That I don't understand.

The rodeo is staged, gold circle goat-ropers and clowns.
A rumble in the third act, tie 'em up and burn 'em down.
We're armed to the teeth, born a little breech;
Blue-plate special analysts, cells and SUV's

We can't approach the Allies 'cause they seem a little peeved
And speak a language we don't understand.

I told you I wanted to be wrong
But everyone is humming a song
That I don't understand.

(Prop up The Omega Man, we're primed for victory,
God gave us the upper hand, there's honor among thieves.
Temper it with arrogance, a dash of sad conceit.
The top's down on the T-Bird, we're the children of the free)

Storm into the boardroom of the conquering elite.
Did you recognize the madman who is shouting in the streets?
Destroy the things that I don't understand
Destroy the things that I don't understand.

Do you (or anyone) know why this video is not playing on MTV? I would think the kids would really like this one, since it's mock election season in high schools across america, and the kiddies love to rock that con-tro-ver-sy.

I am blown away, I really am. I've always kinda liked Eminem for having the balls to be honest. This is a fantastic thing he is doing, and I back him up 100%.

I was watching one of those 10 o'clock news programs last night and saw something about it. I also saw one of those dudes from the country group Brooks & Dunn (Bush supporters obviously) saying that Eminem is just trying to get attention, and it isn't a political statement at all. How blind is this guy? Eminem just chooses to express his opinions in a different outlet. And since this guy doesn't agree with it, it obviously is not a political statement.

2 thumbs up for the once again ballsy Eminem. He's on SNL this weekend, I wonder if he will do this song...

EMINEM'S BALLROOM BLITZ !

EMINEM made a rare live appearance at a secret gig in NEW YORK last night.

Eminem walked onstage at New York’s Roseland Ballroom (October 28) wearing a dark blue suit, white collared shirt, red tie, and a pair of pink fuzzy bunny rabbit slippers.

The 2,500 capacity venue was decked out like a patriotic prom complete with swanky cheese plates and an open bar in the VIP section, and ‘Shady National Convention’ signs, buttons and bumper stickers on hand for everyone else.

The performance was a poorly kept secret, and most of the fans who received tickets seem to have won them off a local radio station, who broadcast the performance live.

The event was attended by U2 singer Bono, who wore a cowboy hat, and a collection of hip-hop names like Redman, Obie Trice, many of whom made guest appearances on stage.

The event began as a mock convention speech with Donald Trump introducing Marshall Mathers, who stepped up to a podium and explained his desire to run for office.

"I’ve witnessed the political rhetoric in this country – did I pronounce that word right? Rhetoric?" he asked jokingly, adding "So I’ve created my own party, the Shady party" which caused an eruption of applause.

Then the stage set changed, and the show began. Eminem opened with new the politically charged new song ‘Mosh’, performed while the stunning new animated video for the song played on a giant screen behind him.

Over 20 different tracks were performed by Eminem and his guests which included D12, Busta Rhymes, Proof, Obie Trice and 50 Cent, among others.

Eminem performed tracks off his older records, like ‘Kill You’, but stuck primarily to his new record, and to his friends’ material like D-12’s hit singles ‘How Come’, and ‘My Band’, and 50’s forever catchy ‘In Da Club’.

Eminem closed with the first single off his new record, ‘Just Lose It’, which he introduced by saying: "My whole career has been based on controversy…my motto in 2004 is if you can’t take a motherfucking joke, then beat it" – a reference to the uproar surrounding the video for the song, in which Eminem mocks Michael Jackson.

I'm pro anything that helps to raise awareness. The video is creative and the message is definately there...but, when I hear the song- thoughtful lyrics on top of a simple beat- I can't help but think of Ani Difranco's 'Fuel'- Eminem is no Difranco
