I'm not sure if anybody's already posted this or not, but if so, fuck it, here it is again: Michael Moore will be speaking this WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 27 at McMicken Commons at the University of Cincinnati. He is scheduled to speak from 4:30 pm - 7:00 pm outside in the open field in the middle of campus (right behind Clifton Ave). Right now the official University calendar says "1,000 expected to attend" which is crazy seeing as how he's drawn between 5,000 and 10,000 people in every city on this tour. So get here early if you wanna see him sweat up close. Craig Unger, who wrote 'House of Bush, House of Saud' and is a major player in 'Farenheit 9/11" is also scheduled to be at UC Wednesday night for a screening of 'Hijacking Catastrophe' at 7 pm. So don't be surprised if he shows up early to speak as well. Hope to see you all there!

One More Week! One More Week! One More Week!

Can I predict someone posting a fat joke here? And can this be considered a preemptive strike against said jokes?

and at 8pm there will be hot dog eating contest between Michael Moore and Bob Huggins.

The oddsmakers have Chuggins winning 77-69.

Sorry Spacey, you basically forced me.

If Moore sees you coming at him with custard pies, he ain't gonna be running and ducking -- he'll just open wide.

He won't even open wide, his skin will just absorb it through his clothes. Even though, I hope he has a good turnout and people get mad at W even more.

Dude, the PERFECT spot would be atop the clock tower above the Tangemman University Center. Classic place for an assassination. Great, sweeping view of the whole venue.

Not that I have experience with such things.

Really.

And if I misspelled Tangemmanamanaman, I don't freaking give a damn.
That place could be called No Organization Place, for all I care.
That way it would at least be more accurate.

how do you know they're paying for him to speak?

( and btw, I doubt it has anything to do with your tuition bill. )

The Student Activities board is paying $3,000 for him to come. His usual speaking fee is about $50,000. He's said repeatedly that he's taking a huge loss on this 60-city tour, but that it's more important than money. I mean, you have to figure that the gravy budget alone must be runnin' him 5 or 6 Gs easy (rim shot!).

I'm sure he's not speaking for the heck of it. He's getting paid, I'm sure. After the election, he'll be homeless again.

He was unknown by the mainstream before F911.

Yeah, like I said... the funny thing about most jokes is that they're not predictable... Seems to me that Michael Moore makes for the perfect scapegoat- when you don't want to talk about the issues, you can just revert to joking about his weight. Same rules applied for opponents of Rush ten years ago, of course. Frankly, with each passing day I find myself caring a little less either way...

The idea that Michael Moore was unknown to the general public before Farenheit 9/11 is utter and complete horseshit. Was Bowling for Columbine not the highest grossing documentary of all time (before Farenheit)? Did he not have 2 separate TV shows? Did he not give the most memorable, and publicized, acceptance speech in the history of the Academy Awards? That speech was on every channel for weeks! Somebody needs to get off the boards a little more often.

60 cities * $3,000/city = $180,000.00

Yeah. Quite a loss........

I've said something like that before...I think it had to do with there being a general lack of cleverness so people can only point out the obvious and think they're being witty.
Good call on the prediction.

They didn't play or anything, they just got up there and talked about voting, and how Michael Stipes' dad or grandfather is a vetern voting for Kerry, things like that. The best part was when Michael Stipe called the new Tangemann center ugly. I was having a hard time listening, because I was in complete shock I was in the presence of REM.

Being introduced by REM was pretty cool, but I have to say that Moore's shining moment was when the Bush-backers were booing his anti-war statements. He pulled an enlistment form out of his pocket and told them that if they were so in favor of the war, what were they doing here? He then invited them to come up right then and enlist. Of course, not one of those sorry fuckers did.

And as far as the comment about him making $180,000, that's just asinine. He's paying for all his own travel. He's doing 60 cities in less than 30 days, which means he has to have a private plane (He finished at UC at about 6 pm and had another rally scheduled in West Virginia at 8 pm). Plus, he had 4 secret service-type guys with him because he receives so many death threats. So I'm assuming that this tour is costing him hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars.

I actually thought the rally was really interesting, if for no other reason than there were dissenting voices there. Though they were massively outnumbered, the Bush kids did start a few chants (the most charming and family-valuesish of wish was there loud chant of "Bullshit" even though there were several little kids in the audience). But as Moore said, he doesn't require a loyalty oath to attend his rallies, unlike some people we know.

Oh, and for some reason Michael Stipe was carrying the Daily Show's new book with him. I thought he was going to give us a reading from it, but apparently not.

Yes UC paid him – big deal. I haven’t been on that campus in the 14 yrs since I graduated – looks like they have lots of money to burn. They got $8 off me just to park.

Yes REM was there, but no one has mentioned that these guys were there too:
http://www.diplomatsforchange.com/signatories/dissenters.shtml (http://)

Even if you hate MM, the speech was impressive.

Yeah I was really impressed with the diplomats. They were the three who resigned because of their opposition to the Iraq war. I thought it was really powerful.

Actually the money for speakers is in the same budget as the UC Mens Basketball legal defense budget. So I'm surprised they even had $3000 to pay Michael Moore.

i was beyond shocked, i was ready to kill myself. why you may ask? well, stipe remarked that they had been walking around tangemann for something like a half hour before. I LEFT TANGEMANN AN HOUR EARLIER TO WASTE TIME ONLINE. damn, had i only stayed, i may have had a chance to say hi to one of my favorite bands ever, and my undisputed childhoood favorite.

that said, the "speech" was fun. i still think moore is an asshole, much like o'rieley and limbaugh and coulter and the others he poked fun at. but at least hes an asshole i agree with. i had to leave right after the event for work, so i couldnt stay for the presentation in the great hall afterwards. did anyone here go? how was it? and was it just me, or did the author guy REALLY look like steve forbes?

moore's weight has actually fluctuated a lot over the last few years, which can be pretty unhealthy (trust me, i know...) when dude where's my country came out, he'd slimmed down a lot...

but fat jokes are so funny... i don't want to interrupt.

except that i'll say this: i'm a heavy grrl, and i've seen plenty of pics posted on these boards, and a lot of us are not suffering from anorexia. why is it that fat jokes are okay, but if these were racist or sexist jokes, people would be freaking out and fighting to the death? c'mon...

You're right -- it is asinine.

Carnegie Mellon - $50,000
Penn State - $23,000
Cal State - San Marcos - $40,000
UC - $3,000

Total of sample = $116,000
Average = $29,000
60 city total: $29,000 * 60 = $1,740,000

That sounds much more reasonable.

dx's momma is so stupid, tyrone hill looks at her like "DAAAAMN!!! You're stupid".

I was an acquaintance with him X. Very ugly, very stupid. But then not so stupid that when playing poker he knew he could cheat right in front of everyone and know no one was going to call out a 6-10 black guy who was the star of the hoops team.
