Survivor greenlit by Fox? (From JoBlo)

One of the best books I've read, well, probably ever, Chuck Palanhiuk's SURVIVOR has had a bitch of a time making it to the big screen. The book is easily CP's best and you would think the cult success of FIGHT CLUB would have this one rocketing towards the screen. But countless delays were compounded by the tragedy of 9/11, after which many studios weren't too hip to shoot a movie that heavily features a plane hijacking.

But three years later it seems that SURVIVOR has gotten the official "green light" from Fox - at least according to Palanhiuk's official website. Here's what they had to say: "Yes, you've all heard by now that "Survivor" has gotten a green light from 20th Century Fox and that the team behind the upcoming Keanu Reeves actioner CONSTANTINE are the ones who will helm it. But something Chuck has been telling his fans on tour is that, the actual contract will be waiting for him when he returns back from tour for him to sign. So yes, it's really, really, really official now."

I've heard the rumors about the "team from CONSTANTINE" for some time now too but I'm not sure specifically what members of the team. Director Frances Lawrence? Writer Kevin Brodbin? Producer Lorenzo DiBonaventura? All of the above? It's not easy to tell just yet but if the film did in fact get that green light, expect news to hit the trades soon.

For more on Chuck, his books and possible films, make sure to hit up chuckpalahniuk.net for the latest and greatest. And if you haven't read SURVIVOR yet, run to your local bookstore and pick it up. I had to special order mine about 4 or 5 years ago and it was well worth it.

personally, i wish they would stop making his books into movies. i dont know why the public is so lazy that they have to have such amazing writing laid out in front of them in movie format. i cant see how it could have nearly the same effect. .. maybe with just a bunch of pseudo-artsy editing & whatnot. boring.

i have REFUSED to watch fight club. i wont do it. nope. never. i hate edward norton more than i can express.

/ranting.

I was sooooo happy to hear that this got greenlit. This is such a great book. I think it's his best other than Fight Club. A lot of talk about the moral decay of society! (just like ALL his other books). I have still yet to read Choke, Diary and the new Haunted short story book.

And I don't think people making books into films has anything to do with the American Public being lazy. In my opinion I think it's nice to see a real image of what was in the book. You read something and have this idea in your imagination and I think it's cool to actually physically see someone else's.

With that said, supposedly Lullaby and Invisible Monsters are in negotiations for a movie deal, and I have no idea how well Survivor or any of the others will translate to film.

also, you gotta love land fill of porn!!

youre an idiot for refusing to see fight club. and this is coming from a guy who owns every chuck palahniuk book, has an autographed copy of "survivor," and a personal letter from him sticky tacked to my wall for inspiration.

fight club is his best book, but choke runs a close second. i think that a survivor movie could be interesting, but figured choke or lullaby would be next.

and look for hunter s thompson's "the rum diary" to hit the theatre in a couple of years with depp, del toro, etc.

Yes, I can't wait for The Rum Diary!

And there are sooo many good reasons to see Fight Club, if not for the great performances by Pitt, Norton, Bonham-Carter and Meat Loaf, then for the great directing style by Fincher.

I'm interested to read a screenplay for IM, Lullaby, or Choke. I would think they would change the order of certain things and not have it jumping back and forth. Well see though.

i'm perfectly happy with the book.

that is another reason why i refuse to see the film. i dont like someone else's visual interpritation fucking up the imagery in my mind.

it's not just fight club. will i not watch 95% of any other books that i love that have become movies

it's amazing how people react when i tell them that i won't watch fight club.. as though im breaking some kind of fucking cinematic/literary rule. i just won't watch it. simple as that. i dont know why it's so taboo.

there are plenty of other beautifully directed movies that i enjoying watching. i just don't want to see it. i'm afraid it would ruin the entire effect of the book for me personally.

See, I don't really see it as ruining the effect even if the movie suxx (hell, i'll even watch the Dean Koontz cable movies on A&E with John C. McGinley), to me it's just another interpretation, which happens to be visual.

Really? Hot damn! Though, Del Toro wouldn't be playing Lazlo, as he's not in "The Rum Diary." Is there a link with info about this? HST has been pitching this book as a moive for 3 decades now.

Fight Club is one of the best book-to-films out there. If Survivor is done right, it'd be great. I finished reading the book on 9/10/01--no shitting. When I woke up the next morning, I thought I was just having a dream relating to the book.
