Oh well, thnx to someone decidin that my stuff was there stuff I had to interact/w the police.

So, there I was, Sycamore & 14th (I should just stay away from Sycamore from now on, that's the only place i'v run into troubl) flaggin down cars askin for a cell when someone who needed directions let me use his car (poor guy, he's probably still drivin around downtown... or perhaps he's in Laconia right now).

So I calld 911, they told me that the cops were really busy & it might b faster for me if I drove it over to District1 HQ on Ezzard Charles. So I decided that it was okay & I'd drive over there, so she could cancel a dispatch.

So right when I give the guy back his phone & he drives away, what happens by? Yep... a cruiser!

So I flag them down & they pull alongside so I say:

"Hey, I was wonderin if u hav the time to help me. I just called 911 because someone broke into my...

I get interruptd. He cut me off & told me that I was bein "rude" b/c he doesn't hav a "direct line" to 911. Repeatedly he cut me off to inform me that he's not directly linkd to 911 & so he wouldn't'v got the call yet. Then, as I xplain to him that I just got off the phone (of course, also goin to add that I told them to cancel the dispatch) he interruptd me again sayin that if I ust got off the phone/w them "how do you expect me to get the call that quick?"

wha?

I'm thinkin... dude, u won't let me finish what I'm sayin, I'm still tryin to b cool, but u'r just cuttin me off before I can get to the reconcilitory offer of: Yah, i understand u couldn't'v gotten the call that quick, I also understand that you might b on ur way to somethin more important than a car-break in, so I askd if u had the time QUITE AWARE that u probably didn't get the call yet.

But could I say that... nope.

He just went off on me for a few minutes & when I tried to xplain the situation he just cut me off. What was funny is when he xplaind to me that he gets complains about discourteous cops who don't deserve them b/c ppl think they'r hookd into 911 directly, or they'r too slow, or whatevr...

I'm about to crack up, but I figure he'll wear himself out soon enuf or get to a point where he'll let me completely xplain. So, what's even bettr, is he says "(despite ur tone, this time) I'm going to fill out this report for you" (gee, thnx for doin ur job. I wasn't in a bad mood, just disappointd, but most ppl would'v been in a lot worse mood. The way u'r reactin would only exacerbate the situaiton. But I'm a patient man who's not in a bad mood)

So, he radios dispatch askin for the 911 call regardin my vehicle. When he does this I try to interject that I cancelld the call but he cuts me off/w a sharp look & more of lecture. So he asks them & they repeat there is no call, to which he ... in an accusatory tone, asks if I really did call 911.

So I say "yes" but I...

cut off again. He talks to them again & is now frustratd that I'm tellin him one thing & he hears anothr, so I finally hav the opportunity to say what I'v been dyin to say since he first startd lecturing/complainin...

I called 911, they told me you guys were busy so I decided to cancel the dispatch & drive down to Ezzard Charles. When I got off the phone that's when you were driving up, so that's why I asked "If u hav the time".

After that he was "human".

So, after things were said & done he seemed like an alright guy, Got no prints worth anythin from the scene so... once again... I'm musicless (and minus my Ben E. King thru Doves mp3s : ( (but burnin a new one of those ain't nothin) & for the first time since Lazarus the Shoe, I'm windowless.

Oh, so when I get home at 2a, tapin up my window, some guy comes by & asks for a ride to a place about 1.5 away. I'm tapin up my FUCKIN WINDOW at 2a & this guy & his drunk-ass gf are comin up to my driveway to ask for a ride. I xplain to him that I hav no window & I hav glass everywhere in the car, so what does he do? he asks again.

Ugh... some ppl. I xplain to him that it's a mess & then he finally realizes I had my window broken today & says "Oh, u must b in a bad mood after that. Okay" & walks on. U'see, that's the prob, I wasn't in a bad mood, not about the cop, the window, or my CD/MP3 player bein stolen. I was dissappointd that someone would do what they did, but I was in a good mood. So, when he said that it reminded me that I was in a good mood so I offerred him a ride after I finished tapin up the window.

People who use 911 for non-emergency calls should be cited and fined.

Sounds like you handled a complete mess in a good way Due. Thanks for sharing. If more people handled stressful situations in such a way, the world would be a more pleasant place.

Let's get the LaRosa's team working on that, pronto!

I think new york has something like that. Along with a city wide (all departments... police, waste management, transportation, etc.) number that you can call and get information about anything. I imagine that we'll have something like that in cincy by 2014 or so.

My compliments on keeping your cool. I would have ended up saying something stupid.

Sounds like you handled it well, man. If I could E-bay all the shit that's been stolen from my cars over the years, I could spend a week at a resort in Hawaii. I've had windows shot out, tape decks & tapes stolen, a box of oil & filter I was just getting ready to change was stolen (WTF? pure kleptomania), my wallet stolen from the glove box (they left a $200 MP3 player alone, and, thankfully didn't break the window), and once I woke up & looked out to see my tires and wheels gone. Car was sitting on two cinder blocks.
Point being, the police could give a shit about car break-ins. When the wallet was stolen, I kept from washing the car 'cuz I thought they might dust for prints. One store had video of the perp using my stolen credit card, and I related this to the police "detective" who was doing the "investigation". Did I ever hear back from police on any of these break-ins? Three guesses, the first two don't count. I even checked back w/the store detective to see if the cops ever requested the video. Two weeks after the fact: no contact. I gave up, and kissed it off.
Every time, the police treated me as if I somehow invited the thieves. Yeah, I used to be young and dumb, leaving tapes and CDs laying out. I realize now a car is just a parked target wherever you leave it. I got a removeable face CD player, and everything of value (even loose change) is hidden from sight when I leave it. The windows are up, and the doors locked, even if I'm going into a store where I can see it for just a minute. It amazes me how many people leave a $50,000 SUV running while they step into Ameristop. They just ain't had it happen to 'em yet.
Good luck, hope insurance has you covered. If you need a good deal on glass, see Denny at Century Glass on Colerain, and tell him I sent ya.

That sucks. Once back in college I had to drive home in 20 degree weather sitting on broken glass after some numbnuts broke my drivers side window out. At least it wasn't raining. Sometimes I'm tempted to just leave my car unlocked so thieves can look for stuff without breaking my windows out first.

your car was broken into and you cds were stolen or your stereo or both? crap bastards.

Whenever I hear that someone's music collection was stolen I burn my entire collection on DVD (about 3 days worth of music played straight through) and give them a copy... it may not be everything they like, but it's a good start.

so if all your cds were stolen, let me know...i have a small modern rock collection to get you back on yer feet.

those damn crap bastards.

ok..hungover and grumpy..have to go get my tailgate on.

nah, not my CD collection, it was MP3s, 200 songs on one disc, sot hey only got the disc in there. The theif was smarter than usual,... or at least more practiced... even tho he could'v "scored" much bettr by poppin the trunk & stuff he didn't to avoid fingerprints.

No, I'm not really mad, just dissappointd that someone would do that. It seems like downtown is gettin worse each time I go there... but it's only gettin worse for me!!!

Yzah, & JvK? I was just thinkin the same... why can I order a pizza easier than I can call the cops for a non-emergency?

Wasn't much evidence to go on.

andrea from venus mission had her window smashed and purse stolen on 8th in front of arnolds. she called 911, and then a bike cop happened by, took a report and even went dumpster diving in the area to see if he could find her purse. shitty situation made tolerable by a decent cop.

btw way due......this burn sucks! what speed did you burn it on!?? sheesh.......next time, i'm gonna smash the window of someone with a decent copy software! :D

My dad worked third shift in an iffy neighborhood for many years. Theft wasn't the only problem. He had to park on the street and had gotten side-swiped by drunks several times as well. He got in the habit of driving tiny junkers without radios so he would at the very least have something to drive home in at the end of his shift. One time he got in his beat-up Chevette in the middle of winter and couldn't get it warm enough even though the heat was cranked. Turns out that somebody had stolen his rear window.

nah, i'm with due on this. what do 'they' start teaching you even in kindergarten... dial 911 for an emergency. man, f whatcha heard, they don't teach you another #. hell, 911 was even automatically programmed into my old cell phones by hitting 9 send. ::mutters, like their sorry asses just can't transfer someone, mothers:: not only that, but if they did change it to a transfer system, they would probably automate so it makes all situations worse and then blame us for not memorizing the 10 phone #'s of the police, like i ain't got to remember 100 damn #'s as it is. SSN, home phone, bank #, my mom's birthday, my lady's birthday, and... the list just goes on people, stop the ridiculousness and just transfer a brother, damn.

Yeah, the one time I got in a car accident in Cincinnati, I called 911 (no injuries, just wanted to report it because there was debris in the road and figured you were supposed to report accidents). I was surprised at how long it took for someone to answer. If someone was murdering me, I would have been dead before someone came on the line. When they finally did, they were all surly-like and said the police didn't need to come out for my accident. So, I called my insurance company and they sent out their rapid-response van very quickly.

When my tires got slashed in front of my parent's house about 6 years ago, the Green Township police came out and took a report. The guy wasn't very friendly or helpful. I figured he was a real dick when one of my cats was walking around, and she put her paws up on the chair he was sitting in and meowed at him, and he grimaced and tried to make her go away. Cat-hating bastard.

Another brief police story. My (not-too intelligent) high school boyfriend had major authority issues. He did poorly in school, resisted authority, actively hated the police, etc. Well, guess what he does now? Yes, he's a cop. And I'm sure he's an asshole cop, too.

to open the door takes fingers, to smash a window takes a boot. If u really wanna frustrate them find some way to make them open some smooth surface to get to the object of their desire.

Do cops even take fingerprints for anything less than a homicide these days? It seems to me like property theft just isn't a concern for CPD.

Maybe we should start leaving the windows down.
