Kerry And The Purple Heart
Controversy has surrounded the Massachusetts Senator's first Purple Heart. John Kerry claims to have been wounded in battle on December 2nd, 1968, and therefore, deserving of the medal. The officer in command of the event was an eyewitness. He reports there was no enemy fire. That John Kerry had a self-inflicted wound.
The doctor who treated Kerry called the wound a scratch, which was treated with antiseptic and a band aid. Kerry's request for a Purple Heart was turned down by his chain-of-command. Yet he somehow finagled one by other means.
Kerry challenges his critics to examine the official Navy records. So, we've taken up his challenge. Here are the facts. There is no after action report, which was required had there been enemy fire. There is no personnel casualty report detailing Kerry's wounds. The December 2nd event didn't qualify for either.
In an exclusive, The Point can report that a casualty card does not exist for Kerry's wound. Described by Navy offiicials as "valuable as gold," a casualty card documented a wound qualifying for a Purple Heart. While casualty cards exist for Kerry's 2nd and 3rd Purple Hearts, none exists for the first (see them here).
The complete absence of these three documents thoroughly discredits John Kerry's claim that he suffered a combat wound.
In his dishonest efforts to try to create an image that he is some kind of war hero, Kerry insulted each and every serviceman who was legitimately wounded. Many of whom who refused to apply for Purple Hearts even when they qualified for them.
The Point issues a challenge to John Kerry to produce these three documents. So far, his campaign has released hundreds of pages of documents, but the ones that matter most, simply don't exist.

Big surprise... a topic comes up that is tough for Kerry fans to respond back to and they totally ignore it and go off on a tangent. Wouldn't have happened had it been an "anti-Bush" news post.
Why is someone who posts pro-conversative news a spammer, while someone who posts pro-liberal news is not? Oh wait, people must be wearing Kerry flip flops!

Maybe we consider people who only come to the message boards of one of the most liberal, independent radio stations in the country (never mind the world) and don't participate in ANY OTHER FORUM except for spam our politics board with bullshit that nobody cares about.
These are not people coming to our boards because they listen to our station and they sure don't care about anything else that happens here. They want to stir up shit in a place where, quite honestly, they aren't welcome.

Hey, speaking personally and by way of an apology, I'm English - of course I'll post off-topic for a little brevity! I have no concept of American politics, other than it's decidedly two-dimensional and sadly serving as a model for our own domestic system - I know that Kerry is a rich guy, a Democrat and want's your schools to be better equipped. I also know that Bush is a rich guy, a Republican and a bit of a cunt, particularly when it comes to Foreign policy ("Where's Foreign? - is it in Iowa?").
That's all from the unititiated over the pond.

You couldn't be more wrong. I have loved this station since I moved to Oxford in 1987. I regularly read these boards for music news and opinions, as well as news about the station. I regularly spread the word about woxy to all my friends and co-workers. I cried as I listened on May 13th. I am here for the music and the COMMUNITY which, as the DJ's would often say, is what makes woxy/97X so special. However, many members of this community can be very spiteful if you want to share an opinion that doesn't sit well with the majority.
It continues to amaze me how so many people will make judgments on an entire group of people instead of individuals. Your post is a prime example.
It really bothers me that you would say I am not welcome here because of my opinions. How wrong is that?!!?!? I thought this was a place to exchange opinions and share healthy debate? I guess we have to agree to be liberal to be allowed to post here? What a joke. Do you need my skin color, too? How can you say it's wrong to discriminate when it comes to gay marriage, but okay in other circumstances? I realize the significance of the issues is a bit different, but you understand the principle.
So there you have it. A pro-conservative person like myself who loves this station really DOES exist. Surely I can't be the only one! Surely someone like yourself who loves this station and loves diversity can appreciate that, can't you?
Please, let's just stop being so damn hateful. It's ugly.

I'm sorry if you took offense, but I was OBVIOUSLY referring to the people only come to this board to spam in this thread. They are becoming plentiful. I'm sure that we do have some conservative listeners, but these latest board members are not here because of woxy.com. They do not contribute to this community in any way other than to get involved in fights on the politics board. I'm sorry, but that isn't welcome here.
I think that general, healthy debates are welcome...but that isn't what we're getting here. I would hazard a guess that some of these folks don't even know any of the artists we play, they just want to get into a pissing match. This just cannot keep happening.

Listen, n00bz, as someone who's mixed it up at one time or another with a good portion of the boards over politics in one way or another, I'm bored of all these "news" threads from dubious sources which purport to show that Kerry is EEEVILLLLL, or Bush snorted coke off a stripper's stomach, then paid for her abortion. It's dull. People who've been here for a while get a pass for posting this crap, because they're part of the community, which is largely supportive of differences of opinion and politics (although as a cranky old-timer, I remember the good old days). Additionally, if you were interested in being part of the community, then most of the more substantial crap brought up by the spammers has been discussed. It would take little effort to integrate whatever the hell your point is into an already existing thread. But no, these folks come in, post something without checking to see if there's already a thread, and then generally proceed to insult anyone who takes them on. But you won't, so post away, and we'll see my IGNORE list grow.....
As for not responding, maybe we're all just tired. Maybe we've already discussed the issue to death. Absence of response to a posting on a message board is rarely a sign that you've won the argument and convinced the other side. People respond to what they want to respond to. Sometimes you've stumped someone, but more often, they just can't be arsed to respond to you.
Me, I just checked the thread to see all the Wilson sisters jokes.......

Those spammers give us all a bad name. I never could debate or argue well. You know, always think of that snappy comeback 2 hours later... Conservative is as conservative does.
Discussion boards give us face-to-face losers a chance to think before putting our feet in our mouths. Some posters here manage that quite well, though, even with a preview button.
Sometimes I can't resist rebuttal. Most times I just click the next thread, 'cause I know I can't change anyone's mind. Sometimes I can smell a non-registered voter a mile away. They're not worth responding to.
I just joined this board because the flame wars are heating up, with the election coming on. It'll die down in a couple months. There's some good stuff on here, but a conservative viewpoint usually gets joked and shouted down. That's why I'm here. Post a conservative view, watch the flame war heat up, and the thread dies. Voila!
BTW, Heart was one of the baddest-assed concerts I ever saw!
And, yes, WOXY has been programmed on my presets since the mid 80's.

In that case, I'll try not to let the threadkilla succeed in his/her killin'. As for past records of either Bush or Kerry, nobody will ever agree. If all the information in the world came out, neither side would step back, look at the evidence and say "OK . . . maybe I was given bad information". All that ever happens is people scream faulty documents, suppressed information, eye witness accounts and in the meantime, any issues of this century go unnoticed. I blame both capaigns and the media. I'd like to see a debate, but it will just end up in mroe mudslinging. No politician should be allow to be president.
PS: I am voting and have been since I was 18. I'm there in the primaries for the past 5 years or so. Every outspoken viewpoint has a tough time listening to anything but their own parties rhetoric.

I appreciate your words, but there was nothing OBVIOUS about your original post. The way it read, you were calling that person (and every other person who shares their conservative views while not having posted elsewhere yet) unwelcome in this forum. How do you know this person is not a lifelong WOXY fan who finally made his or her first post? How do you know they aren't a brand new WOXY fan eager to join the community? (i.e. intentions are good) Let's see if a pattern develops first before slamming them. I also believe that the upcoming election is really fostering strong emotions on both sides...and that's a great thing! Given that, it's only natural that someone may only post on things that they feel very passionately about and want to share with others.
OBVIOUSLY I was using myself as an example and not saying you were talking about me. I may look brand new to many myself, but I do care about the music, I do spend time perusing other non-political topics, and I am a long time fan. I hope my lack of posts does not make me unwelcome here.

Right on. That's why I'm here. I have a tough time believing ANY politician. Just a few issues keep me on the conservative side of the fence. I think a president has little control, besides judge appointments, of changing the direction the country's going to take, anyway. I personally think the country runs best when the legislative and executive branches of gov't are opposite parties.

snopes's opinion (http://www.snopes.com/politics/kerry/service.asp)
No, snopes isnt a part of the "Liberal Media". They verified the buried Migs, and I dont think a truly biased group would do so. Ive found most of their research to be quite accurate.
Claim: John Kerry's Vietnam War service medals (a Bronze Star, a Silver Star and three Purple Hearts) were earned under "fishy" circumstances.
Status: False.
Also, try the VERY UNBIASED factcheck.org (http://www.factcheck.org/article.aspx?docID=231). (Their hompage has a great piece about how both of them are lying in their speaches) I would say this is as close to the last word on this issue as it gets. Their conclusion is "At this point, 35 years later and half a world away, we see no way to resolve which of these versions of reality is closer to the truth." In other words, if you are stating your view on this issue as absolute FACT, you are full of it. The only person who knows that is John Kerry.
The real reason this board is on a tangent is to mock the spammer. Sorry, I know you want to think us "liberals" are out to get you. I think we would normally have a spirited discussion.
