I want to find a good glbtq mag that's animal rights/environment friendly but have had no luck so far.

When I get some cash again and a job, I will be able to subscribe to everything I want.

This is what we get now:

Entertainment Weekly
Martha Stewart Living
Martha Stewart Everyday Food
(I'm a Martha Stewart junkie, sorry.)
Rue Morgue
Consumer Reports

We used to get the New Yorker, but it comes every week and we could never read enough to make it worthwhile.

If money were not an issue, I would add:

Bitch
Bust (if it doesn't still suck)
Utne Reader
Atlantic Monthly
something music-y, like CMJ, if they ever shape up

Get the:
New Yorker
Ready Made
Esquire

Esquire, btw, is the best deal on earth, clocking in at $9 for an annual subscription. Some of the best writers going for under 10 bills. ANNUALLY.

Read Food & Wine/Gourmet on occasion, as well as the Nation when I'm feeling saucey.

And, though the issues are sporadic, gotta love Found Magazine. The booty don't stop!

I know. Fuckin assimilationists.:(

So many of my friends are queer vegans... you'd think that there'd be a magazine out there somewhere. A huge portion of the animal rights movement are queer.

Oh well.

I read three mags:

->consumer reports. no advertising.
->Cincinnati Magazine. but I am stopping when my subscription runs out. not great writing, too many ads, and definitely not targeted toward my demograhic!
->Utne Reader. probably the best writing of any mag anywhere. just really brilliant stuff. despite the slant of the mag they feature some fantastic music as well. great pub.

Two very good magazines that I'm not sure have been mentioned yet are Arthur (http://www.arthurmag.com/news/) and BB Gun (http://www.bbgunmag.org). Both have excellent websites as well. You can get Arthur free, depending where you live. The current issue of Arthur has this coverstory: The 1967 Exorcism of the Pentagon and the Birth of the Yippie! It also features musings by David Cross, Le Trigre, Black Keys, and Thurston Moore.

I'm surprised not more people are aware of the greatest magazine in the nation, Modern Drunkard Magazine! You can check it out online at http://www.moderndrunkardmagazine.com

My favorites are Bitch and Magnet. OH and consumer reports, I'm addicted to that. I occasionally buy other music magazines, depending on who is featured in the issue. I like DIW usually, but don't put much stock into the reviews. It's kinda like judging music based on a pitchfork review.

My favorite magazine was Blue Jean, an advertisement-free "empowering" alternative to teen girl magazines. I had a subscription in elementary school before it went defunct.

I don't really have a preference now. I read the Time and US News and World Report my parents have but don't have any subscriptions of my own after not renewing Utne. The stack of publications on my desk is limited to Dissent, Daedalus, Night Sky, "Uncut Presents NME Originals: Goth," and Skyscraper.

Q could also mean Questioning. That's the way we always treated it in my high school's Gay/Straight Alliance, before students had the chance to get radical about orientation.

As far as acronyms go, that's a relatively simple one. Two-spirited, straight supportive, asexual, queer or questioning aren't even included. It could have ended up looking something like GLBTQQSSA2 or worse.

Im not big on magazines, but 2 years ago i picked up the 'end of the year' Spin and i really liked it. In fact, it still sits next to my toliet. 2 years later, i now listen to a few bands who were on top whatever lists (yeah yeah yeahs, the rapture, interpol for example). And theres a lot of different artists given credit (eminem, white stripes, interpol, foo fighters, whatever i cant remember).
