I know its just another cheeseball publicity ploy from our bloated bovine friend, but in many ways it speaks to the man, his message and motives.

Money quotes:
-----------------------------------
"The Times also reported that Moore 'has consulted with lawyers who can bring defamation suits against anyone who maligns the film or damages his reputation,' and that he's established a 'war room' to monitor attacks on the film."

and

"Even when they have good cause for a suit, most journalists refrain from filing, believing that libel threats keep topics of controversy from being aired. They'd rather contest hostile attacks on their work in the marketplace of ideas, not courtrooms."
-----------------------------------

Now that's what I call "progressive."

u'kno, some would say he's goin to far by usin the heavy-hand to say u can't criticize the movie.

However, I tend to think he's doin it out of a challenge to them. Kind'v like: prove otherwise, legally. Or, "do it anyway".

U'kno, the way journalism should b.

i think it is the act of a truly pathetic person. his next "documentary" should be on the abuse of the legal system.

I agree with Due on this one. Its safe to say that Moore has some enemies with significant TV and radio airtime who don't mind shooting first and semi-retracting later.

It would be stupid for Moore to sue for anything but surefire slander or libel. People asked for the Democrats to grow some balls, and finally some are stepping up.

I agree on the documantary on the abuse of the legal system, though. Kenneth Star as well as the Supreme court's activities following Nov., 2000 would be great docu-fodder.

actually, what moore is doing is a classless act. period. so what, he can rail the bush administration and not expect any flak, but if someone tries to give their opinion (even if jaded), then he will sue. because honestly, his opinion is jaded in the way that he wants it.

anyway, it is just another ploy to keep himself and his movie in the public eye.

and i would never choose moore to do a piece that i wanted an unbiased opinion on, like the abuse of the law system, unless he included himself in it and the way he is abusing it.

it works for what he has said against the administration, it works for those who hav claims against his retelling of information.

if u find him to b a liar, get the proof, take on his lawyers. If u happn to find him manipulativ, get the proof, take on his lawyers. If u just want to rant & rave against him w/o proof, u'll b takin on his lawyers.

get it?

Moore is just playing games. I seriously doubt he'll sue anyone, this is just his way of saying that you'll have to PROVE it now before you run your mouth. I think it's actually a little humorous. I would bet he does too. this whole subject, really, is a laughing matter, sadly enough.

I still think he's a shitbag, but it's not always how he says it, often it's what he says, that garners my occasional respect. assholes can be right too. and sometimes you have to be an asshole to get people to listen. shut up Due.

Moore is a hater.

Appariently a wimpy, "I'm rubber, you're glue", immature, outta' shape, sneaky, whiney, terrorist-hugging, gas-guzzeling, fried-chicken-eating, Ken-Burns-wanna-being, NBC-cancelling, Fox-cancelling, spiteful, pie-full, insignificant little hater.

but i guess i shouldn't criticize his film...

:D

I'm not sure what you're afraid of, its not like companies like FOX can't handle their own. Actually, I remember when they tried to sue Al Franken for using "Fair and Balanced". Oh, and remember when they threatened the Simpsons?

anyway, it is just another ploy to keep himself and his movie in the public eye.

I can think of worse things done to promote something (like war) to the public.

He hasn't sued anyone yet.

I agree with Onest 2.0 and Due..

Maybe because I'm a huge Michael Moore fan, I dunno.. but I think that he is playing the same games as people like Limbaugh, Hannity, Coulter, FAUX News, etc., would do in this type of situation and you know what..

IT's ABOUT TIME!!!

I'm glad that somebody on the left has the type of balls that Michael Moore does!!

i don't know, but the jaded way that i saw moore was of one who wouldn't lower himself to his competition that he is slamming. so to me, he is the same. the only difference is that he has a different agenda. you can say what you want, but i respect someone far more for not engaging in this type of shit.

and thank you for making my point so clear, he is doing similar things as the bush administration. except that the one is the president making the jackass decisions and the other one is just a jackass.

i have to admit, i had respected moore before, but not anymore. he'll have to do a lot to earn it back. and that is really all i'm going to say.

Moore is a public figure. he's got to prove intent and that it was done with menace. mostly. it's a little more involved than that, but he's not your standard defamation plaintiff for sure.

regardless, i once heard Michael Moore raped kittens. don't quote me on that though.

i think that depends on your definition of "kittens", BigSugar.

Agreed. It's a joke, not funny, but a joke. It's a film in which he criticizes the President, yet he says I will sue you if you critisize the film. Hahahahahaha :quickly stops::

I'm staring to think there is alot of people on this board that took the Short Bus to school.

I think it's great. Finally a journalist is taking on his peers who destroy lives, governments, and truth through cut up intervies and biased approaches. He is doing the same as they are but they are nervous because he unlike most of the others is not backed by any CNN, ABC,CBS,NBC or political party to put their views first. He makes other journalists nervous because he knows the same games and rights as they use to destroy what they want when they want. Now they have a rogue in their midsts and are in a panic. I say go get em. If they want to air dirty laundry so can he. If they want to hide behind the first so can he. If they want to accept money to write articles in favor of whomever then let them. He does it all except for the last and they don't like it. It's like when the Jefferson's moved into Archie Bunker's neighborhood. "Damn Spades! Come around and ruin evreything."

he is criticizin the Prez/w impunity b/c what he says is true (furthermore, it's not the Prez as much as it is the administration) & those who say he's not bein truthful need to hav their ducks in a row or face litigation on untruths they present.

Sounds like a challenge to me, not a silly moment.

If Moore carries through on this, can I buy a ticket to see his fat ass deposed by the defense team?

I'm guessing that would be a hell of a lot more entertaining than "Farenheit 9-11" will turn out to be.
