View Full Version : The Final Broadcast Party!

I don't know how and I don't know when, but I think everyone should gather on the party patio for the last broadcast. I am envisioning something like the final scene in "Empire Records". I would love it if some WOXY DJs would discuss the feasibility of this idea. I'll drive in from Dayton to listen to the last broadcast and share some memories.

Party patio or no, if the end is announced ahead of time, I'll be in the parking lot with a boombox.

No offense, but i'm really leary of this idea.

That's cool. I'll be in a neighboring parking lot.

I'll be too depressed to party.

Not to sound like a smartass... but how would you like it if I hung around your place of employment on your last day of work while you were trying to work?
I'd rather share the moment with my co-workers, and I'm not going to be in any type of mood at Midnight to talk to anyone.
But that's just me.

If they go off at midmight (logical) matt would be the DJ, and could see someone like you and Pretend Girl inciting a riot, breaking in to the station and holding matt and the gang hostage forcing them to keep the station going for ever and ever.
Wait that sounds like a good idea.

Why sit around moping the loss? Sure it sucks, but do you want the last memory of the station to be crying away the night? I'd rather sit around and talk with fans and friends about concerts and songs and DJ's and whatever else. Leave with a smile.

I certainly would feel the same way, regardless of what the future holds. Maybe I'll just get together some friends and 97-X fans in Dayton, OH USA and celebrate 97-X. It's like losing a member of my family.

I envision looting.
I know I would (even though there's nothing really left from what I've heard)...
I'll be taking a huge chunk of siding.

I didn't know WOXY was completely going off the air! I thought they were just being forced to stop broadcasting on the Internet.

No Matt, you didn't sound like a smartass, but an insensitive prick!! :D
(joke. HA HA)
In all seriousness...what you said makes perfect sense and your honesty is greatly appreciated (by me anyway). If there is a bar in Oxford that will be broadcasting I may be there, but I won't be outside the station like Dawn of the Dead.

I work in radio too - in Detroit - for one of the evil coporations (but not the evil corporation).
I would be extremely flattered if people gathered around my station to celebrate it, it would put me in a good mood, knowing that somebody gave a damn about me and my station going off the air.
it would give me hope!
but that's just me.

I see your point. Me? I'd probably dig it, but I'm needy like that.
Out of respect, I won't do it then. But I'd wager you'll have a crowd outside on May 13th. There are a whole lot of people to whom 97X isn't their job, but a means of escape. A way to learn about and listen to bands that you wouldn't hear anywhere else. Losing that is a big deal to many of us. Maybe not in the same way as losing a job you love beyond measure, but it's a palpable and real thing to those of us who awoke from a bad music stupor because of you. We're not going to have that anymore and it sucks.
I'm sitting here at 6AM getting choked up thinking about it. I've lost girlfriends I've cried less over.

Will there be extra "bandwith" space or whatever available on the last day. I'd assume an above to way above average amount of people may be tuning in online on the last day.
Just curious, it would be unfortunate if a lot of online listeners get cut out of the last day because of demand.
Looking forward to X97.7 Couldn't it be the "The Future of Roll n Rock, Bam" instead of "New Music First"

I tuned online to 97X last Friday and have not shut it off. When I am not home to listen, I am recording (as mp3). I don't want to shut it off for fear I won't be able to log back on.
I love having the high speed cable access.
I'm just holding out hope that there is a hero out there, that wants to keep this all alive on the internet. Yeah, it could go dark on May 13th, but that doesn't mean it can't come back a few days or weeks later.....

I have to get my work schedule tonight to find out what I will be doing. Probably will not be in Oxford however.
My preference is to listen to 97X in my car while it does off the air. That's the way I want to remember it.
So that's probably where I will be.
