View Full Version : What are the Top 5 local CD's you are listening to this week?

Smoker29
25 Jan 2002, 11:44 PM
I thought it would be cool to have a thread similar to the thread in the Main music forum where people post what they're listening to the most on a weekly basis. Maybe some of us will see something that we didn't know was available and aquire it somehow?

What local CD's (new & old) are you currently listening to?

I'll start

Chris Collier: Song Gallery
Lohio: Three Song EP
Messerly & Ewing: The Last 12 Hours
Ashley Peacock: Trespass 491
Clabbergirl: We're So Pretty

sg7, if you like the lance ohio that you heard on mp3.com, then you'll like the whole record. i would highly reccomend it. bill's playing and singing on the cd are wonderful. add to that the all of the guest appearances, including Nikki Beurhig, and you have a great effort.

soup of the day
28 Jan 2002, 01:49 PM
oh yeah without a doubt in no particular order, i lock myself in a room in my circle of one, chug down a fresca and a crueller and marvel in my brilliance.
gravy8 "miss the boat"
porterhouse "serious drivel"
porterhouse "strike up the band"

OK here's the real current top five from someone who sees, mixes, shares gigs with and generally loves bands that can write great tunes and back it up live. here's the list for the past 10 days listening.

POPOPOLIS "volume 01" cd comp - great collection of cincy's finest pop-oriented bands.
PROMENADE "save the radio" i know, not from '01 but who cares.
BEARS "car caught fire" can't wait for 2/16 show
GOLD TOOTH DISPLAY "blindfold" Okay, they're from lexington but they've played in cinti alot over the past 4 years, ripleys, etc.. and they flat out rock. I wish they'd play cincy more
BIG IN IOWA "green pop", just got it from bob the other night, very cool indeed ! distinct unique voice.

* this list changes alot as everyone on these boards knows, there are so many great local bands, especially those writing great pop oriented tunes.(saving ray, clabbergirl, rockets to mars, crosley, greg mahan, ryan adcock, simpletons and all the others)

i'd also like to thank the academy, did i just win something, what a tool, i am for typing all this shtuff, i'm just rambling, as my phone system has been down all day at my office and i feel cutoff from the world, and i think i ate too many shrooms.

Got a real sweet bootleg of, my hero, Michael Landis, playing solo at York Street a few moons back and another great boot of Brian Lovely's Flying Underground. Plus that Bears boot of their acoustic show at the Barrelhouse in December. Been listening to them as well!

musiq * soulsinger
assponys * lohio
pike 27 * falling down hard
aretha franklin * the 60s
high fidelity soundtrack
tragically hip * phantom power * specifically, chagrin falls and fireworks (track 7, of course)

the tragically hip were tragically lost for 6 months, until yesterday....sweet relief to find them, at last

from Fireworks:

if there's a goal, everyone remembers it was back in ol' 72
we all squeezed the stick, we all pulled the trigger
and all I remember was sittin' beside you
you said you didn't give a fuck about hockey
and I never saw someone say that before
you held my hand and we walked home the long way
you were loosening my grip on bobby orr

isn't it amazing anything's accomplished
when the little sensation gets in your way
no one ambition reaching in over your shoulder
isn't it amazing you can do anything

and the bridge:

thanks to your comrades in the national fitness program
caught in some eternal flexed arm hang
dropping to the mat in a fit of laughter
showing no patience, tolerance or restraint

fireworks exploding in the distance
temporary towers soar
fireworks emulatin' heaven
til there are no stars anymore
