Other names I dig:

Soft White Underbelly
Hole
Tenacious D
The Vic Taybacks
MC 900 Ft Jesus
Pussy Galore (and they also had good album names)

I remember in the late 80s there was a band which played Kansas City once in a while called "Lubricated Goat".

Yeah. They aren't Explosions in the Sky groundbreaking instrumental or anything, but they are very soothing instrumental. Most people who like them will recommend their album "The Sleepy Strange," but since I'm partial to alt country, I totally drool over "If I Could See Dallas." The first track on that album is called "Now Wait for Last Year" and it is one of the most beautiful songs. It gives me chills.

As for KATHLEEN TURNER OVERDRIVE.....

They actually are a real band.
They formed in the early 90's, and put out one cd that was self-titled. (I do not believe it is still available.
It consisted of 2 memberes of the band Drivin N Cryin.
It is mentioned here http://www.drivinncryin.com/history.asp
They were a fan favorite in Atlanta, but only stayed together for a couple of years.
You can buy a t-shirt here http://www.buyswag.com/drivinncryin/product.aspx?id=94

Actually, Dave (who was one of their many revolving guitarists) is my roommate. Last I heard, Glenn was still living at home or something. And I last saw Ryan a couple of years ago while attending Miami Middletown. They were such a fun fucking band. This reminds me of a good story... So the local radio station plays this game "Rock Band or Not," where they come up with absurd band names and callers have to guess if they are an actual band name. So I emailed in with my 2 recent favorites - Dogs Die in Hot Cars and Sluts of Trust. They ended up making me listener of the day - for a disappointing prize of a free body piercing (don't really see myself using that) and tickets to see Vertical Horizon woo hoo!! .

Stanford Prison Experiment is probably my favorite band name. Not just the name but the experiment itself. I also like Yo La Tengo because of the baseball reference. The Strokes is a great name for a band, especially given their style of music.

Other names I dig:

Soft White Underbelly
Hole
Tenacious D
The Vic Taybacks
MC 900 Ft Jesus
Pussy Galore (and they also had good album names)

What is the baseball reference with Yo La Tengo?

Cherry Valence is a great band name...also, Rollerskate Skinny

As that's Spanish for "I have it" or "I've got it" I'd imagine it's a reference to catching the ball...

I know the translation, but I still don't understand the reference. Did someone say in particular say this?

No one in particular, it's just one of the fundamentals they teach you in baseball. You always make a call for a fly ball. Keeps people from slamming into each other at high speeds.

Oh, and I used to dig on "Grasshopper Takeover". Good name.

I'm rather surprised no one has mentioned The Crucifucks; that name has the potential to offend a lot of people in a very concise manner.

Does anybody remember the Rutles? Leggy managed another group called "Crosby, Stills, Nash, Young, Gifted and Black".:D

Bi-Polar Bear

And my favorite non-pun, pithy, and ear-friendly:

Elephants Gerald

I thought Bi-Polar Bear was the name of an STP song, not a band name?

It's not said by any one player in particular.

It's a phrase that English speaking ballplayers need to learn so they can communicate better with their Spanish speaking teammates. This way no one gets hurt crashing into eachother.
