Music Theory for dummies.
Damn is it interesting stuff and actually presented in a way joe average can kinda grasp (assuming they have a little muscial background).

i'm going home to finsish brian wilson's autobiography...
if you haven't read it, it's a good, quick read that offers alot of insight into the music he made...

If you've not already read it....This Band Could Be Your Life is a good one. It's about the indie movement of the early to mid 80s.
I can also highly recommend the Paul McCartney bio Many Years From Now written by Barry Miles. Brilliant.

I'd read 'Our Band Could Be Your Life' when it came out. Good read.
Unfortunately, the library had none of the books any of you suggested, so I checked out a bio of Bob Dylan. (Gonna see him in concert tomorrow)

I have three suggestions:
The Nick Drake biography
High Fidelity (one of my favorite books ever!)
Beck: Beautiful Monstrosity (a very interesting read. It's not just a fan book about how cute Beck's butt looked in those tight pink pants, although it did look quite nice I must say...)

just to let you know however that it is only true up until about 1975 or where Landy enters his life the second time.
after that it's all crap with such a heavy spin that it is really not believable.
BTW - Dr. Landy is not licensed to practice in CA nor pretty much in any other state in the US. State of CA took his license away for the way he "treated" Wilson AND for prescribing him illegal narcotics. They wanted to prosecute however Wilson would/could not testify.
He now resides in HI and consults for a major mental facility there as he is not permitted to have any patients of his own...
