To set the record straight, 97X has been sold to a group from Texas with strong ties to Clear Channel Communications, the giant that plans to eventually take over all form of media and communication in this free world of ours.

First Broadcasting purchased the station, and they also purchased another 97.7 FM station nearby. Why woudl they do this you may ask? To upgrade the signal to higher power (possibly 50,000 or 100,000 watts) and increase the coverage of the signal and simultaneously increase the value of the station. Within one year, I will personally guarantee that Clear Channel Communications will own the new, higher powered 97.7 FM. Look for one of their "cookie-cutter" formats to invade the signal. What format? Whatever they feel will line their pockets at the moment........

But all of you Clear Channel haters can be rest assured, a hostile takeover will happen in the next 10 years that will force Clear Channel to divide it's properties........then maybe mom & pop will be able to own a station again..........I'm sure it's wishful thinking.

Sorry to hear about your loss Cincinatti. I've been there myself, it's no fun when this happens.

I hope you are are correct on CC having to divide up in the far future. But for now, I thought no company can own more than 8 stations in one area? I could be wrong, just reporting what I've been told.

Clear Channel owns the maximum amount of FM's and AM's in the Cincinnati market. They can not own any other stations in the market ulesss they sell off what they already have.

Is 97.7 technically in the Cincinnati market? Or is it in between markets? Or does the purchase of that other 97.7 station make is more squarely in the Cincinnati market?

"Clear Channel owns the maximum amount of FM's and AM's in the Cincinnati market." - Matt Sledge

That may be true, but the devils of Clear Channel have been known to operate under aliases, in many markets they "lease" stations from other owners, in turn they operate the station but do not technically own it. And in other markets they operate under a different name entirely, i.e. "Entravision Communications." Visit www.indie1031.fm, look for the hidden CC-esque logo..........

In the case of indie 103.1, I believe Entravision has only contracted with clearchannel to provide advertising revenue. For the station's first month or so on the air, it was entirely commercial free. Clear channel, however, has NOTHING to do with the programming, as far as I know. Not to say the station's as awesome as 97X, but still. I don't think it's all one big conspiracy. And the sale of 97X is DEFINITELY not one big conspiracy, so calm down.

I know that there was a story in Rolling Stone a year or 2 ago about an allegedly independent company whose offices were in the same building as clear channel's offices and was supposed to run like 4 stations with only 7 full time employees. So the Clear Channel conspiracy isn't entirely unfounded since it was reported in a major magazine. Now whether the article was right or not, I can't say.
