no, what 97 had in mind was "lets sell out and completely alienate our original fan base".

Stop creating a new thread for every bitchy thing you want to say. It's annoying and it doesn't help you get your point across.
If you're so pissed about it, start your own goddamn station.

Really, Pretend Girl, under these circumstances I think you're hostility is uncalled for. Chill, and let people voice their sorrow.

Actually, I had a pretty good point--a point that has been voiced in all of his other threads by different people.
I'm tired of seeing the same things said in fifty different threads by 20 different people. Read what the mods have posted and for the love of god quit being so melodramatic. Not just you, everyone. It's business, it's politics, it's economics, and it happens. And if you aren't happy with it, do something about it. But calling them sellouts doesn't change much, does it? Crying about the feared death of the scene or the feared death of independent radio doesn't stop it from dying. There's no way I'm alone on this point...

Pretend and DSM... my agreeing may be the kiss of death (I do have a habit of killing threads), but I hear you loudly and clearly. Pretend, way to channel that passion! Are you in law?

I don't think any of us feel like we're being "melodramatic". And you're wrong, it's so much more than just business, ask anyone who remembers area radio before 97X came along and saved us.

People who are being overly melodramatic never feel that they're being that way. Otherwise they wouldn't react so illogically.
I'm not wrong. It is business. It was a business transaction. If they didn't sell for business reasons, then they must have sold just to piss you off...
I don't even know what your last sentence has to do with your argument. I know WOXY is/was a damn good station. I understand the impact it has had on communities and music and lives. My point is that you want to be able to "voice your sorrow" or whichever way you ridiculously put it, but again my point is, what good does that do? Cry cry cry, bitch bitch bitch, whatever you say is not going to take the few mil out of their pockets and put 97x back on the air.
Personally, I think it was a pretty damn smart move. Would I have done the same? Probably. Would most of you have done the same? If you say no, you are probably lying. Does anyone here really know how profitable 97x was to the employees in the first place (other than the employees themselves, obviously)? No we don't, so it's not our place to judge them for their behavior. I give them the benefit of the doubt on this one, and if you respected this station as much as you say you did, you should too.
Thanks for the support guys. I'm not trying to be bitchy, just trying to be logical. I should note that the above statements should be read assuming the least amount of hostility possible. I'm only defending an argument and trying to figure out why everyone is freaking out. Judging by some of the reactions around here, I'm surprised to learn that they are now putting Internet access in bomb shelters...
Truant, no I'm not in law, I'm in common sense. :p

In case there are people who don't know how radio/TV/print media make $$$, it's by selling advertising. There is no money tree next to The Party Patio.
Long time listeners will remember hearing a good amount of both local & national businesses buying ads on 97x. I have been employed by 2 of these companies (CD World & Jungle Jim's).
Now set your way-back machine back in time 5-10 years ago. You heard alot more ads on 97x. More ads equal more money for the company. Less ads equal less money for the company.
It's that simple.
Listen today, not that many ads. That's great if you are a listener, and horrible if you are the owners/employees.

I'll speak from experience and say that for the employees it was/is FAR from profitable, but that's not why they work there.
As far as the owners go...I have no idea how profitable it was. I'd imagine that in the last few years it has not been (until now!)
I don't know where all the employees will land when this all shakes out, but Bake, Barb, Mike, Bryan, Matt, Susan, Kathy, Shiv, Phil, and everyone else deserve only the best. I wish you all the best and hope Doug and Linda give you all at least a little taste of the bounty (God knows you deserve it!)
Take care.

When WOXY first came on the scene they played music that I had never heard before. It was different. It made me think. It challenged my comfort zone. I was new at MU and thought that it was mainstream and that I was just a hick. As I listened , I realized that everyone else was a hick and that woxy was right.
After I graduated and moved to Cincy, I started working in the environmental field and paired woxy with their modern sound and environmental slant toward earth day. We brought in great bands, historic moments, and formed a great partnership over 8 years.
In 2004, things will change but it is a temporary inconvenience. As woxy was ahead of me in the 80's when I didn't understand, they are ahead of me now. Technology will catch up, it is our free market way, and they will be able to reach us, make us think, and challenge us again on our way to work or away from computers.
Earth Day will go on again, with a different sponsor. WNKU, a public, non-corporate-(non sucky) station will partner with the greater cincinnati earth coalition but the influence of woxy on the earth coalition and wnku will go on. We will keep a good mix of modern acts, both national and local. Hope to see you at Sawyer Point on April 17.
Don't worry. The future is ahead of us and so is woxy.
