Wow. The demise of 97X is going to change a lot, especially the climate of Oxford. WOXY has played a big part in making the Cinci music scene what it is and has been the basis for a faction and lifestyle outside of what a lot of Oxforrd/ Miami considers the norm; I'm sure I'm not alone in this huge sense of loss.
I don't understand really why this has happened. 97X needs to stay on the airwaves. Even an AM station would be better then nothing at all.
There are a lot of use who grew up listening to this station and it has provided the soundtrack to virtually our entire lives so far. It just seems like there's got to be something we can do.
Somebody DO something!!

Well, since you're in Chicago, you can always still listen on the 'net. WOXY isn't going anywhere. Just the radio frequency of 97.7 in the Oxford/Dayton/Cincinnati area is going away. WOXY.com is not.

yes, I know. But that doesn't change what I said at all.

I know what you're saying, and I agree with you, I was just saying that since you're in Chicago, you can always listen online. I'd like WOXY to stay on the airwaves as well, but I don't think it's gonna happen. A sad day for independent radio, yes, but I don't see that there's anything we CAN do, outside of buying the station completely from the Baloghs and a frequency to go along with it and start it up again.

God I'm going to cry!
No more 97X in my car when I roll in to see my parents, no more 97X on my friend Eli's porch while drinking beers, no more 97X bumper stickers being handed out in front of the coop. I just can't believe it's true.
Seriously, I'm going to cry.

There are some quick fixes for household listening.

Run a RCA Cable from your computer to your Auxiliary Jacks. Then run some outdoor speakers.

It would be better than nothing.

a sad day, indeed.

i didn't grow up with it, and i have only listened to it online, but knowing that there was quality internet radio that wasn't part of the corporate roster really did give hope a good run for it's money. at a time where corporations control far too much of the media as it is, this station embodied that independent spirit, that mom and pop hope, that alternative to what everyone else was following like lost sheep.

i was saddened to find out it was sold. (actually, i was pissed off at first, but i've calmed down now) maybe it's a sign of the times. maybe those of us that oppose this change are just hopeless romantics.

regardless, my sincere condolences to the locals who are losing their beloved station, and let's keep our fingers crossed that it doesn't change too much once it's in the hands of big brother.

Rachel, the format will only change on the radio dial, NOT the internet.
