VAST stands for Visual Audo Sensory Theatre and is a solo project of a guy named Jon Crosby. He was profiled in Guitar Player magazine when he was 13, and is kind of like Trent Reznor in that he likes to do things on his own. I haven't listened to this group since the debut album (self titled) which I really liked because it had a NIN/radiohead feel but with a lot of almost danceable rythms.
This cd is not as heavy musically, but a lot more textured and will have more longevity because of it (I think). Also, it doesn't have the gospel/opera chanting that was on the first one..
A lot of the song lyrics on Nude are about relationships or just being angry with yourself for *insert your own reason here*...And there is a very cool hopelessness feeling to the whole disc. The lyrics are very open to interpretation I find..
The music has an electronic/sampled feel, with acoustic guitars in some parts. I find his voice sounds a little like Bono, but instead of singing about Beautiful Days, he's singing stuff like:
"Strange how the houses look
Exactly all the same
And you're just a slave like me
At least I know it's true"
I hate flash web sites, but I must admit I like the scenery pics on this one. especially when you go to the "touring" part
Vast Site (www.realvast.com)
I think the songs I like the most (after listening to it a grand total of 2 times hehe) are turquoise, I can't say no, and
definitely desert garden (which is totally acoustic and in parts he almost sounds like he's going to cry)
