I really love this new record, although i still like High Society better. Hocus Pocus is kind of easy to drift through on a drive across Ohio, which is actually a quality i look for in a new disc, as i often have to drive across the southern corridor of Ohio from west to east and back again.

point, i like this one a lot.

you know, you could give a little bit more. instead of just dissing the record, give us a reason why.

Do I sense hostility? I didn't figure the fact that I didn't like it would change your opinion of it.

But if you insist... I downloaded this album as soon as it was downloadable, and boy am I glad I didn't buy it. After their release of "High Society" I couldn't wait to hear what they had next... but I was upset to hear that only one or two songs on the entire album were even tolerable. The Japanese girl or whatever she is has very little range and absolutely no creativity when it comes to her melody lines. She also has a really annoying voice unless put to the right songs. I think they just found a good blend of songs for her to sing on "High Society," which I also think are the weakest songs on that album. She sang way too much on this album though and she sounds horrible. I don't know if only one of the guys sings or what because I don't know much about the band themselves, but the songs that the guys sing are horrible except for maybe the Power of Yawning... I think that was the one song I sort of liked.

Anyway I don't really have a good reason for disliking this album other than that everything about it sucks. I didn't like Believo! much either but High Society continues to be one of the best albums in my collection. Sometimes groups just get lucky and write a really good album. Sometimes they misplace their genius from previous albums. I don't know what happened to Enon but they missed the boat on Hocus Pocus.

Do you feel better now? I don't.

ditto. I don't understand the praise anyone gives this album.

You downloaded the album. that's awesome. [sarcasm]. they're on Touch & Go (http://www.tgrec.com/) , a phenonmenal indie record label. you must be a *real* fan of indie bands & labels that you fucking download their hard work. download britney. don't download good independents.
i said what i liked about the album. it's easy to drift through on a car ride. i can elaborate. it's unobtrusive and relaxing.
i'm not a music major; i can't talk about her range or complexity of melodies. i played piano and tenor sax. i don't know much about drums, guitars, singers, or synthesizers. i try not to be pretentious about my likes and dislikes. i just know if i like it or not. i feel like i can say i think it's good because it's chill, and that's enough.
hostility? yup. i think you come off as ignorant and as though you are somehow definitive. you think "hey ya" is the best song of all time, and i think that is sad. i don't think my opinions are faultless--they're just mine.
i'm too old to care what some underager thinks of me. get over yourself. i just wanted to see what others thought of this much-waited-for album. i wasn't looking to spark some shit. now you did.

And yes, Toko Yasuda is Japanese.

You are a fucking retard. Let's take a look at your list.

1. Yes I downloaded it. I downloaded it because if I would have bought it, I would have wasted my money. Don't be so self-righteous. If the album wouldn't have SUCKED BALLS, I would have bought it. Whine about how you are supporting indie labels to someone else. I'm not going to support a band who can't put out a good album. You really know how much of an indie fan I am don't you? You don't know what I download, you don't know what I buy. Pick a fight with someone else and get your head out of your ass. No one has time to listen to how great you think you are.

2. Saying you can listen to an album in a car does not constitute a reason that an album is good. It's just another way of saying "I like it." And me saying it's disappointing is another way of saying "I don't like it." Practice what you preach. I was only continuing with the theme of stating an unsupported opinion--a theme that YOU started. Don't jump on my back for shit that you do too.

3. You don't have to be a music major to tell that someone's voice sucks or that they just keep singing the same melody line over and over again. I'm not getting overly technical on you here. And once again you say "I just know if I like it or not." THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I FUCKING WROTE when I said it was the most disappointing album of 2003. I just don't like it. You contradict yourself way too much for me to be able to take you or your opinions seriously.

4. Get off the Hey Ya thing already, no one gives a shit. I DO think it's an awesome song and I don't care if you don't. Call me ignorant for it but I still think it's amazing. I'm not going to sit here and defend it because it's not going to change your mind. Again, I didn't think you had terrible taste or think you were stupid or something because you liked Hocus Pocus, yet you're criticizing me for having different taste. Get off your high horse.

5. Yeah because my age really discounts me as a music fan and human being with an opinion. If you really didn't care what this "underager" thinks of you, then why did you take such a long time formulating your response? I didn't spark any shit until you got hostile. Notice that I said one line, ONE: Most disappointing album of 2003. Period. And then YOU jumped in with your hostility, which above you readily admitted to. Who's starting shit? Who started with the namecalling first?

If you wanted to make a case for yourself, you should have tried backing your shit up. People don't trust hypocrites.

And anyway, continue to call me pretentious, but I think I've made it painfully clear on this board that I have nothing to be pretentious about when it comes to my music taste. I could make you a list a mile long of mainstream bands I like that everyone on here would gag at. I don't think I'm better than everyone else, just better than you.

The damned CD got a 7.0 review on Pitchforkmedia so it can't be that bad.

the first problem with internet boards is that you can't hear tone.

you must have been on the defensive, because when i said:

you know, you could give a little bit more. instead of just dissing the record, give us a reason why.

I wasn't hostile then--i was inquisitive--most disappointing is a pretty strong criticism & i thought it was only reasonable to ask you to back it up. i wasn't being hostile until you came back at me, when i replied with my numbered list. it didn't take me that long to formulate the answer.

If you're gonna sling ugly shit, then i will too-- you're the fucking ignorant one. the japanese girl or whatever she is? calling me a retard? fuck you, darlin-- that shit's offensive and fucking rude. ask the rest of the boards and you'll find out that calling folks retarded ain't cool around here-- there are a number of us, myself included, who have made it clear in the past that such language is hurtful & offensive, because a) we have family members who are so-called "retarded" or b) we're just not assholes who talk like that.

so fuck you. you're not better than me; you're just trying to prove that you can step up and ack like a jackass.
