I picked this up on a whim... I'd seen one of their music videos on MTV2, and had rather enjoyed the music despite the rather bland video production.

These guys (and girl) are a little hard to stick into any readymade hole. The vocals are usually very prominent in the mix, and remind me in many places of Travis from Piebald, probably only because some passages are more shouted than sung. The singer does manage to explore a decently wide range of vocal stylings over the course of the album, including some nice hardcore-style screaming, if that's your thing.

The guitar work reminds me quite a bit of And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead, being very tight and technical at times, and quite heavy-strummy at others.

All in all, I'm not sure I could say this band has invented a new genre, but I can say that they've taken a great spin on a few that already exist. I don't know if they're going to be in my CD player forever, but they've certainly dominated it this week.

There's a nice video of them on www.punkrockvids.com, it's a cap of the same one i saw.
