So I see they are playing "Do that there" on 97x these days.. You guys are finally clued into something that the underground has known for awhile, Lyrics Born is one of the best rappers, ever, period.
The cd itself is a journey through what hip hop is, it's boundaries, and how it only takes a slight bit of creativity to break those boundaries and turn out something completely different. It will remind a lot of people of what outkast did this year, changing and redefining rap from the gunplay and drugs it usually is into something entirely new, fresh, something that kept in mind the old but brought something new to the table.
This cd redefines what it is to be old school while still being new school, the first real track on this cd is a Tom Waits'-esque rock song, reminiscent of some of his more macabre work, and also it reminds me of the theme song to the sopranos for some reason. The cd itself is full of splendid ideas and imagery, LB is a talent and a force to be reckoned with in every way. The songs themselves are named like regular hood songs and things, like Hot Bizness and Do that there and callin out. It's rather funny if he was doing it to fool the people who only care about hood rap into buying his album and experiencing and artist with substance.
He sounds like a cross between Tom Waits and Tone Loc, it's rather strange, but coming from Quannum it's not surprising.
An amazing release, everyone should buy it now, incredible and definitely one of the top 5 cds of the year.
