Anyone else picked up the Enquirer's new faux-alt weekly yet?
It's even lamer than I expected it to be...no opinion, no commentary, no real news (unless you count a one page brief re-hash of the week's top stories). The majority of the articles seem to be about things to buy.
CityBeat may get on my nerves from time to time, but it's miles and miles ahead of Cin.

Yeah, it's nothing special. The opening left-hand side is even Bogart's calender - couldn't they be a little more unique?

Not to burst your bubble, but usually that page is considered prime ad space and was picked by Bogart's as where to place the ad. In marketing, it's not's what unique...it's what sells. :)

I miss EN too :(
CityBeat has grown on me somewhat over the years, although certain writers there (mostly Steve Ramos) bug the crap out of me on a regular basis.
Cin may find its legs yet, but given the quality of the daily papers in the Gannett chain (the Enquirer being Exhibit A), I won't hold my breath on that.
The best alt-weeklies I've seen are the Detroit MetroTimes, Toronto Now, Chicago Reader, and of course the Village Voice. The one in Dayton (they keep changing their name and I can't remember what it's called now!) usually has some decent writing, but it's always so short.

What's so bad about Cin Weekly?
It's a completely different paper (content wise) than CityBeat.
So what if they’re competing, it's called capitalism.
As far as I'm concerned, I'll have two mags in town that will write about me and advertise my gigs.
People are always complaining about lack of press or exposure for local music. This mag will get out to all the people who don't or never would read CityBeat. "CityBeat...Not Everybody gets it..." That statement is true. I read CityBeat every chance I get, but there are many out there that “just don’t get it” and won’t read it.
Two mags mean more exposure for everyone in Cincy. Restaurants, Radio Stations, Bands, Stores, you name it.
By the way, why can't I get a CityBeat at the Airport? Are they banned like they're banned at Kroger’s? I'd love to have me some CityBeat at my job.

After trying to read what content there was (85% of this newspaper is ads!) I decided to spread it on the floor to catch my hair while my wife cut it.
CiN Weekly is very weak on content. It is written for people with a sixth grade reading level, and is a waste of trees.
Steve Ramos bugs the @#$! out of us too!
