My fiancee has one and she digs it. Doesn't seem to give her any crap at all. Unlike the hellish beast that is my HP PC. Never again. If I can ever afford another computer, it'll be a Mac next time.

I have a friend whose had one of the widescreen models for a few months, and he likes it. At work, we have a mix of dell laptops, both new models and older, and we've had some problems with them. I have one from the previous model set, and they seem to have a problem with the DVD drive. Generally, I guess I'd say "meh". but the widescreen aspect ratio is pretty cool on the big one......

I think Bake has one of these... looked pretty cool and the resolution on the screen is massive. I'll see if I can get him to post something here.

They're nice machines spec-wise and the price is pretty good. Heard some bad stories about Dell quality control and service., especially over the last year. I'm with sd with being lukewarm on Dell. I wouldn't refuse to get one, but I'd see if there was something else out there.
I'll take Bryan's machine. . . :D

All of my experiences with Dell have been good ones. They look good, they run well, they have pretty good customer support, and you get the best bang for you're buck from them. But I have nto dealt with them in over a year, so i would check out what Richmond said before committing.

I recently purchased an Inspiron 8600 with the wide screen. I LOVE it! I use it extensively for video production for the internet, plus audio production. I bought it with 512 in memory, an 80 gig HD, and built-in wireless capability. It hasn'y as much as bogged down in what I do with it, and the resolution is incredible!

i'm going to say the same thing i always say when some one says they want a new pc.... build it. dell's parts are crap, they use crappy hardware, period.
for the same price you can build a machine that is better in so many ways. if you don't know who to talk to use the internet, do research on parts and find good parts and good prices. or you can just have someone build one for you.

Uhmmmm, nice rant and all, but we're talking about laptops, right?

Maybe he can build IPFS a new Mac while he's at it. :D

As long as it's a PC that runs Microstation 95 for Mac OS9 (that's not asking for much, is it?), he can feel free to build away... :)

well I said no to the 8600 and went with the 5150. got a good deal and I really souped it up to make it a killer desktop replacement.
