Stabbings, fires in 'worst ever' Athens Halloween party

(Athens-AP) -- Rioting partiers at an annual Athens Halloween
bash started streetfights, lit couches on fire and threw bottles at
officers during what police called "the worst event to date."
Athens police Chief Rick Mayer said police arrested 66 people
overnight Saturday and responded to nearly 20 fights and at least
five fires. Another 15 were arrested Friday.
During one fight, police say a man's leg was slashed to the
point it might be amputated.
They said a second man stabbed repeatedly in the chest was in
stable condition this morning after his lung collapsed.
A rape was also reported.
Chief Mayer says this year's event was the worst he's ever seen.
Police say unusually warm weather brought a crowd to the event
consderably larger than previous years. No crowd estimate was
available.

what? they didn't send in the cops today as a show of force?

c'mon, isn't that standard procedure for Ohio to send in the cops the next day?

Isn't that what Halloween is supposed to be all about in college? Hella-drinking, some couches set on fire, a bunch of fights, and a slashing or two. All in all, sounds like good times.

It's interesting, because just before I read about this OU thing, I came upon this article (http://health.discovery.com/news/healthscout/article.jsp?aid=515754) saying that binge-drinking on college campuses is way down.

Call me old-fashioned, but I'd rather see chaos at OU on Halloween than see college kids putting away the bottle and studying all the time. Buncha damned over-achieving straight-lacers who are after my job!

I would love to see, just once, or maybe on a semi-annual basis, somebody just light up a crowd like that with automatic weapon fire.

That is what it would take to put an end to these idiotic American children of privilege and their endless moronic debauchery and begin doing some good for the world.

Right now, because of a childhood made up largely of television and false suburban life constructs, the only way to deal with many of these fraternized idiots is with pepper spray and crowd barriers.

Holy crap, I agree with you. But let's have a test run in Iraq first. All of those people celebrating around that helicopter crash should have been the first test run.

have any of you had the pleasure of attending the OU Halloween event? I went in '98, and it was one of the best weekends of my life. then again, none of us got arrested either :)

No, those people have the right to cheer. After all, we are the equivalent to them what the Big Red Bear was to Patrick Swazey and crew in Red Dawn!
