So who's heard this gem from Australia? I noticed they are currently featured in the 97X Artist Profile! This album is fresh. Don't let any reviews you've read shy you away. I had heard the e.p. and the single & thought 'OK'. I wasn't prepared to fall in love with the album as I did! I'm curious who else has picked it up.........anyone?

I haven't gotten around to getting it yet, but I've been cranking the hell out of that song in my car when I hear it.

I got this CD over the weekend and think it's great. I suspect there are big things in store for Jet and that they will make the leap to the bigtime really quickly. I hope it doesn't ruin them.

I got ahold of an acoustic version of "Be My Girl" that Jet taped recently in the WHFS studios. Think I'll take back those bad things I said about that song. Great guitar work that changed the song quite a bit.....but the lead singer still yelled it up. Fantastic!!!

I just saw a MAC commercial for their iPOD or iTunes and it's featuring their new song. I really like the two songs I've heard; Rollover DJ and Are You Gonna Be My Girl. I have my eyes open for that cd.

Jet are just superb. They are going down so well here, mainly because of there 60's/70's rock influences. There debut album 'Get Born' has turned out to be one of the highlights of my year. I also have the pleasure of watching these guys on there NME Rock n Roll Riot Tour (with the Hiss) in 2 weeks time, which is destined to be a corker.
I recommended these guys on these boards around a year ago, when I was given there debut 12" EP, and was totally blown away.
'Are You Gonna Be My Girl' is a fantastically simple but amazingly effective track. It will be up there in the Single Of The Year polls. But my album favs are the slow ballad 'Move On' and the slightly more lively 'Cold Heart Bitch'.
If you dont own this, then your missing out on a big chunk of 2003 (but if you dont own 'Lovers' by The Sleepy Jackson, your missing the biggest chunk of all).
Cheers

my fifteen-year-old brother was telling me all about them last weekend. usually that's a bad sign, but i listened to the first couple songs, and it's really not too bad at all. totally third-gen garage rock, nothing very impressive or new, but better than most.
though when even my little brother complains about how bad the lyrics are, you know they leave something to be desired. but that's garage rock, i guess..

this is probably going to get me skewered, but i must say that i'm not all that excited about the future prospects of Jet. Yes, Are You Gonna Be My Girl is a highly infectious, very catchy, very fun song. But a lot of their other stuff seems to sound suspiciously similar.
They write fun stuff, but I can easily see Jet falling into the same "fad rock" hole that so many other overnight wonder bands have.
Then again, perhaps I need to give the CD a few more spins. Having said this, I suppose they'll become the next Beatles... :D

The next Beatles??? Never...
Anyway, this album got a terrible review on Pitchfork, which means nothing, so I looked up some other reviews, and everyone ragged on it. Whatever, I got it anyway and I think they are all dumb. Sure the lyrics aren't all that inventive, but they rock my body and that's what counts. Best album of the year? No. But who cares, it's damn good.

Hey, it's good to see that you don't care what the critics have to say. As much as I hate to admit it, some reviews can obscure my thoughts on a certain record.

the rockin songs rock, but the acoustic slower songs are un-original and boring as hell. a lot of the songs on this album seem like filler to me.

I've gotta agree- I love the uptempo songs on the CD, so catchy and rockin'... and have to skip through all the slow ballady crap. It's like two different bands almost, I just can't listen to the slow songs on this CD.

I got this finally and I like it as well. Very shocked at how many slow-mellow songs there are, wasn't expecting that.

Glad to hear that people are liking it. I've been wanting to pick it up because I am in lust with "Are You Gonna Be My Girl," but I was a little suspicious that it would be a 1-or-2-good-songs-and-the-rest-is-crap album.
Just this morning I turned on AYGBMG, sang very loudly, and scared my cat. It was fun. "BUT YOU WERE WITH ANOTHER MAAAAAAAAAAN GIRL!"

i think the song sucks. which is of course my opinion, and everyone has one of course. sure the song is catchy...but to a point where it gets pretty annoying. it kind of pisses me off how these bands that play these simple power chord songs can make it so far. oh well. they were pretty funny on kroq's loveline with their funny australian accents. sckeef (i believe..) later.

I was searching through the new used section at amoeba around october 23rd when i came upon Jet, i thought them interesting so i picked them up and carried them to get a burrito where i proceeded to look through that days purchases while drinking a beer and waiting for my burrito, it's a good burrito place on Haight, I looked at all the liner notes, check out the track list and made my decision on what to listen to first. i went home to eat and listen to my new gems. when i first listened to it i really liked the rock songs but was surprised by the slower, i just didn't expect a jet to fly so slow. after repeated listens i have come to terms with and learned to enjoy and appreciate this album for what it is, fun.
no, this album isn't anything that changes the genre or brings new understanding of rock n roll (honestly not much does these days) but it is fun to listen to and hop around while listening to. the pics of the band look like they are just trying to damned hard to be garage band, thrift store retro, 70's rock band cool, and the lyrics have as much strength to them as wet card board but i think if we held all music and musicians to a certain standard and never allowed deviation it would be a boring music life and we would be missing on a lot of fun like jet.

As a random side note, my mom loves this whole rock revival thing going on- all she listens to these days are the white stripes, strokes, jet, and her new favorite is my morning jacket- she wont stop playing them. So yea, my mom is cooler then your mom.

Another side note...remember that Jet played SNL in December? I guess they got such a great response that they have asked them back. Twice in one season is rare. No date is set yet.

My mom asked for copies of Belle & Sebastian, Kings of Convenience, and Smiths. No question, my mom is cooler than yours.

my mom already had all the smiths on vinyl and hates morrisey solo (for all the right reasons). Plus, she already had boy with the arab strap in rotation years ago. so my mom is cooler.

Yeah my mom listens to Barbara Streisand, Enya, Yanni, and a whole slew of other such atrocities.
She also listens to Josh Groban and various showtunes, which I don't particularly mind, but the fact that they are ALWAYS CRANKED while she's doing housework or cooking gets old real fast...

I haven't even THOUGHT about listening to that Jet CD again since last fall. Anyone want my copy? I'll autograph it for you. I'll sign it as any name you'd like, and put a personal message.

yeah, I know. But I'm still going to give Jet a shot when the Vines come to town. I have heard good things about the new Vines disc. I haven't been impressed by any of the live performances by Jet on their tv appearances--horrid, in fact. But I honestly dig the album. Hey, if they're just studio rats....that's ok by me.

I feel the same way about both bands. I love Highly Evolved, but their live show (at least the one I saw) was unarguably crap. I'm still gonna give 'em another chance... I already have tickets for the Aussie Invasion show (how could I not go, I'm still a citizen of the place). I wont be surprised if The Living End blows them both away though. They don't dissapoint in concert.
