WOXY & Austinist Present: Mountain Goats w/ Final Fantasy

mountaingoatsAnother week, and another great show to put our name behind here in Austin. This time around, WOXY and our friends from Austinist are proud to be presenting The Mountain Goats and Final Fantasy at Antones on November 18th. In addition to having The New Yorker magazine refer to him as “America’s best non-hip-hop lyricist”, John Darnielle has released another critically acclaimed album this year titled The Life Of The World To Come that is already popping up on several “best of” lists as we round out 2009.

Final Fantasy is the moniker that Owen Pallet uses to release his solo work. Owen has released two album and has plans for a new one that is slated for release in early 2010. In addition to his work as Final Fantasy, Owen is also well known for his instrumental contributions and string arrangements for bands like Arcade Fire, Grizzly Bear, Beirut and even The Pet Shop Boys. Most recently, Pallet played violin on the latest Mountain Goats album, part of the reason behind this tour pairing.

If you are a fan of one or both bands, or just want to get out and see some great live music, send us an email to enter our contest to win tickets. Title your email, “Mountain Goats” and send it to woxycontests at gmail dot com. The show is Wednesday November 18th and we will be accepting entries until the day before the show. However, this show could easily sell out, so if you would prefer to buy some tickets, you can do so now right here.

So good luck and even if you are not a winner, we hope to see you out at the show!

WOXY.com Presents The Deep Vibration Spring Tour & Ticket Giveaway!

deepvibe1
After we heard the debut EP from The Deep Vibration, Veracruz, we really wanted to have the band come in and play live in our lounge. And then, after the band performed for us in studio, we became even bigger fans after their stellar performance. So when we were asked to be a part of their upcoming tour, it was an easy decision to make.

The Deep Vibration have exploded onto the music scene since signing to Nashville based Dualtone Music just last spring. All of the attention surrounding the release of their debut EP Veracruz suggests The Deep Vibration could be “a rock and roll legend in the making” according to American Songwriter Magazine—fitting for a band who was actually named by one of Rock n’ Roll’s most legendary pioneers, Lou Reed.

The Deep Vibration will hit the road with Roman Candle for a 30+ market tour sponsored by WOXY.com and Paste Magazine, beginning in the Mid-west on April 13th and concluding on the East-coast at the end of May. We are excited to be a part of this tour along with Paste and The Deep Vibration and encourage you to get out and see these guys live if they are coming to a city near you, you won’t regret it.

Enjoy a couple songs from their recent WOXY.com Lounge Act today, and get even more right here….

The Deep Vibration – Worried Mind (Live On WOXY.com / New-Unreleased)
The Deep Vibration – Oklahoma City Woman Blues (Live On WOXY.com)

***UPDATE***We have a pair of tickets for each of the following dates on the tour to giveaway:

DAYTON, OHIO @ South Park Tavern on SATURDAY, APRIL 25th
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS @ Schubas on MONDAY, APRIL 27th
NEWPORT, KY @ Southgate House Parlour on WED, APRIL 29th
and LEXINGTON, KY @ Al’s Bar on THURS, APRIL 30th

We’ll contact winners via e-mail this Friday, April 24th for all four of these shows. Include your full name as it appears on your license/ID and the winners will be placed directly on the band’s guestlist for a pair of tickets.

If you want to go see The Deep Vibration and Roman Candle in any of those four cities, just drop a line to: woxycontests at gmail dot com before 12 Noon eastern on Friday, April 24th. Please include the NAME OF THE CITY (Lexington, Newport, Chicago, Dayton) that you would like tickets for and include your full name as included on your driver’s license or I.D. so you can claim your spot on the band’s guest list for the show! Winers will be notified via e-mail.

Keep checking back in on The Futurist. The tour keeps on going into May and we’ll have more tickets to offer for other cities soon.

A full listing of the upcoming tour are listed after the jump….
