We co-sponsor the Amplify New Music Series every month @ Schubas in Chicago. The lineup is always packed with the best up and coming artists around and this month is no exception. From Oxford, Mississippi, Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele will be headlining the show. Dent’s unique vocal style, part crooner, part falsetto, and 101 percent showman reflects the influences of some of his favorite singers (Prince, Serge Gainsbourg and Lee Hazelwood to name a few). His love of various song styles results in a unique combination of ukulele, drums, pedal steel, violin, horns and bass.
Opening up the show will be two bands from Chicago: Very Truly Yours and My Gold Mask.
It’s a 21+ event on Thursday night, May 28th, that will only set you back $10. It’s a great night of live music recommended by WOXY.com to all our faithful Chicago listeners!
After we heard the debut EP from The Deep Vibration, Veracruz, we really wanted to have the band come in and play live in our lounge. And then, after the band performed for us in studio, we became even bigger fans after their stellar performance. So when we were asked to be a part of their upcoming tour, it was an easy decision to make.
The Deep Vibration have exploded onto the music scene since signing to Nashville based Dualtone Music just last spring. All of the attention surrounding the release of their debut EP Veracruz suggests The Deep Vibration could be “a rock and roll legend in the making” according to American Songwriter Magazine—fitting for a band who was actually named by one of Rock n’ Roll’s most legendary pioneers, Lou Reed.
The Deep Vibration will hit the road with Roman Candle for a 30+ market tour sponsored by WOXY.com and Paste Magazine, beginning in the Mid-west on April 13th and concluding on the East-coast at the end of May. We are excited to be a part of this tour along with Paste and The Deep Vibration and encourage you to get out and see these guys live if they are coming to a city near you, you won’t regret it.
***UPDATE***We have a pair of tickets for each of the following dates on the tour to giveaway:
DAYTON, OHIO @ South Park Tavern on SATURDAY, APRIL 25th
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS @ Schubas on MONDAY, APRIL 27th
NEWPORT, KY @ Southgate House Parlour on WED, APRIL 29th
and LEXINGTON, KY @ Al’s Bar on THURS, APRIL 30th
We’ll contact winners via e-mail this Friday, April 24th for all four of these shows. Include your full name as it appears on your license/ID and the winners will be placed directly on the band’s guestlist for a pair of tickets.
If you want to go see The Deep Vibration and Roman Candle in any of those four cities, just drop a line to: woxycontests at gmail dot com before 12 Noon eastern on Friday, April 24th. Please include the NAME OF THE CITY (Lexington, Newport, Chicago, Dayton) that you would like tickets for and include your full name as included on your driver’s license or I.D. so you can claim your spot on the band’s guest list for the show!
