Not long after celebrating the 10th anniversary of the classic Moon Safari, Air are ready to return with a brand new album in a couple weeks, Love 2. The record is the french duo’s fifth and their first since 2007’s Pocket Symphony. Unlike the last album though, the band handles all the vocal duties this time around, and once again employed the percussion work of Joey Waronker, who played with them on their “Close Up” tour in Fall 2008.
The album is not out until next month, but we have an excellent “preview” mp3 to share with you today here on The Futurist. The mp3 gives you a “mash up” of a handful of the new songs from Love 2, and should whet your appetite until it hits independent record store shelves.
The Low Anthem was formed out of the friendship forged by Ben Knox Miller and Jeff Prystowsky while they were DJ’s at Brown University’s student-run radio station, WBUR. Always a trio, the band added Jocie Adams prior to recording their third and latest record, Oh My God, Charlie Darwin. After self-releasing the disc in 2008, they caught the attention of Nonesuch Records, who signed them and re-issued it with much wider distribution in June 2009.
Despite the their propensity for more intimate, acoustic performances, The Low Anthem has been in demand for high profile festival lineups including Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, and several overseas.
For their first appearance in the Lounge, they played a pair of songs from Charlie Darwin and two others, including a new, unrecorded song “Sally, Where’d You Get Your Liquor From”.

These United States returned to our Lounge for their third session with us to celebrate the release of their third album Everything Touches Everything. Not only was it a repeat performance for the band, but it marked the last Lounge Act that we hosted in our Longworth Hall studios before the move to our new home in Austin, TX.
The band spend a lot of time on the road and the early promo set up for the new record is no exception. They played for us before kicking off a tour at the Southgate House which will find them crisscrossing the country through the end of October (including a stop on the WOXY stage out at the Monolith Festival in mid-September). Jesse was quick to point out that those are just the dates already booked and that they’ll probably be out playing the record for folks through the end of the year.

We hit a milestone on this episode of Local Lixx as we air episode #40. Once again, it’s a great bunch of local artists representing that which we think you will love. Listen to this week’s new episode of Local Lixx.
The Postmarks are an indie pop outfit out of Miami, Florida. The band has released a debut album that was criminally overlooked by most back in 2007 and a fun but thin covers record in 2008. Almost as if those two albums were warm up acts, it now seems like the headliner is taking the stage with their second proper album, Memoirs At The End Of The World.
Memoirs is as good throughout as their previous efforts were at their highest points, and melds the warmth of their Miami home along with a backing sound that employs a wide array of sounds and instruments. Think Trish Keenan of Broadcast fronting indie pop mainstays The Concretes. Memoirs At The End Of The World is a coming out party for The Postmarks, of course you are all on the guestlist, just be sure to attend.
For his fourth full length album Catacombs, Cass McCombs employs the same tactics and sounds that have served him so well in getting to this point in his career. Carefully penned lyrics that speak to the listener and a gentle yet emotional vocal that pulsates with sincerity and grit.
Each trip through a McCombs record feels this way, and each one seems to get better. While out on the road supporting their friends Band Of Horses, Cass and his band dropped into our studios for this excellent performance.
As fans of his work for years now, it was a real pleasure to be able to host them for the first time, and we think you will agree after listening. Within the set are three new songs from Catacombs, as well as an older gem called “Equinox.”

It’s been over a year since we last saw Chicago’s Panda Riot. Since that time, they’ve added a new member and been hard at work on a follow-up to She Dares All Things.
We caught them as they were setting out on a mini tour that takes them down to the Pop Mayhem Festival in Florida. They set up in the Lounge and gave us a set that includes three brand new songs.
We can expect to hear them and many more on their next album Northern Automatic Music, likely to be released in January 2010.
