WOXY.com MidPoint Festival Friday Preview

One day of MidPoint is in the books, and Friday is ready to kick off. Last night was great at the WOXY.com stage with sets from The Chocolate Horse, Daniel Martin Moore and Why? Tonight we rev it up even more, sporting 4 great acts on the WOXY.com stage at the Aronoff Center.

Rosehips – 8pm
Friday kicks off with the all female rock from Rosehips. The band released a great debut record earlier this year that we featured on Local Lixx and really grew on all of us here at the station. They bring to mind early Rainer Maria or Sleater Kinney, but certainly put their own stamp on everything I have heard from them. A great way to kick off your Friday at MidPoint.

The Purrs – 9pm
Seattle 4-piece are back in Cincinnati for MidPoint and are worth your attention tonight. We have been big fans and supporters of The Purrs for years now and are really excited they will be back in Cincinnati tonight on the WOXY.com stage. We were fortunate enough to host them in the lounge back in October of 2006, have a listen to that set below, and be sure to check them out tonight at 9pm!

The Purrs – Live On WOXY.com (Oct 2006 Session)

Say Hi – 10pm
Eric Elbogen is Say Hi, and another Seattle musician taking the WOXY.com stage on Friday night. Eric and his musical project Say Hi released an excellent record earlier this year (his 5th), The Wishes And The Glitch and we had him in for his 3rd Lounge session back in February, which you can grab some songs from below. Be sure to catch what promises to be a great set from Say Hi….

Say Hi – Northwestern Girls (Live On WOXY.com)

Say Hi – Zero To Love (Live On WOXY.com)

Jukebox The Ghost – 11pm
This energetic trio will be closing out the night on the WOXY.com stage off the strength of their debut album, released earlier this year, Let Live & Let Ghosts. The piano pop of JTG has quickly become a favorite of ours this year and we had them in for a session back in January (mp3 below) had them on our Monolith stage earlier this month, and oh yeah, will be hosting them in the Lounge this afternoon at 4pm ET as well!

WOXY.com MidPoint Festival Thursday Preview

It’s here! The Midpoint Music Festival kicks off tonight here in Cincinnati, and so do the performances on the WOXY.com stage at the Aronoff Theatre! Here is a preview of tonight’s acts playing our stage along with some free music attached to get you started….

The Chocolate Horse – 9pm
The festivities kick off tonight as our friends from The Chocolate Horse take the stage at 9pm. The Chocolate Horse actually began a few years ago as a side project for some of the guys in Readymaid, but it has been in the last year that they’ve really made a name for themselves here in town.

Their debut record Patience Works! was released last fall and ended up being nominated for Album Of The Year at the 2007 CEA’s. Enjoy this song they performed live in our lounge this March.

The Chocolate Horse – Your Daughter (Live On WOXY.com)

Daniel Martin Moore – 10pm
New Sub Pop records signee Daniel Martin Moore is up next, and will be giving you a preview of his upcoming debut album, Stray Age, which is out Oct 7th. Check out this great writeup about Moore and his new album that Shiv did recently as a [This Just In] feature. Here is an excerpt…

“Recorded in Los Angeles with acclaimed producer Joe Chiccarelli (who has previously worked with The White Stripes, The Shins, and U2), every song here is an absolute treasure. It is exciting to have such a stunning debut album surface so unexpectedly from right here in our own backyard.”

Moore is still a bit of a secret, even locally, so come out to this set and support another great local musician!

Why? – 11pm
Why? hail from Oakland, California, but have strong Cincinnati roots and will be returning home to headline our stage on the first night. The band released an excellent album earlier this year called Alopecia and have been on the road supporting it every since. Expect a wide array of genres and sounds to be present for this entertaining set, and be sure to snag a free download from Alopecia below as well.
