Guest DJ Set With Jeremy Greenspan Of Junior Boys

juniorboys1
In the midst of a big US tour that made a stop at the Southgate House here in town, we asked Jeremy Greenspan of Junior Boys to stop into our studios and guest DJ. While Jeremy would have been just as at home behind two turntables, he picks some great music and talks to Mike a bit about why he chose it. Listen below to the music and conversation featuring Jeremy from Junior Boys!

Daniel Martin Moore Guest DJ Set

We have become fast friends with Cold Spring, Kentucky native Daniel Martin Moore in 2008. Just before he released his debut album on the Sub Pop label, Stray Age, he joined us in the lounge for a great set of music. Then, earlier this month, Daniel returned to the lounge for another great set, this time of all Christmas tunes to celebrate the holiday season.

And to finish up 2008, Daniel recently did a guest DJ set as well, playing some of his favorite songs. The show aired last weekend, but we wanted to make it available for you on demand as well, just in case you missed out the first time. Enjoy it below, and Happy New Year!

Listen To Cale Parks’ Guest DJ Set

The day before releasing his 2nd solo album Sparklace on the Polyvinyl label, Cale Parks (multi-instrumentalist from Aloha and live drummer for White Williams) stopped in to the WOXY studios for an hour to chat with me and pick some tunes. He was out on a tour with Anathallo and it was fitting that he was playing in the tri-state during the week of his album’s release considering he spent a good chunk of his life here in Cincinnati. Cale now calls Brooklyn home, but I’m not sure he gets to spend a lot of time there considering how often he ends out on the road.

During this interview, he talks about the creation of Sparklace, some of his favorite bands and artists, and even gives us some info on the next Aloha album (which we will probably see in the Spring of 2009). In addition to this full stream of Cale’s guest DJ session, you can stream (and then buy!) his new album from our friends at lala.com.

Here are the songs Cale chose during his hour with us……

Icy Demons “Miami Ice”
Squeeze “Up The Junction”
Blur “Music Is My Radar”
Arthur Russell “Habit Of You”
Peter Gabriel “Games Without Frontiers”
The Millennium “The Island”
Kate Bush “Cloudbusting”
Broadcast “Pendulum”
Harmonia “Notre Dame”
The Knife “Forest Families”
Cale Parks “Every Week Ends”

Cale’s upcoming tour dates are listed after the jump…

Glenn Kotche Guest DJ Set Recap

glenn1.jpg
Glenn Kotche is probably best known for his percussion skills in the band Wilco, but Glenn is a veteran of several other bands as well. Among those are Loose Fur, On Fillmore, and 3 solo percussion albums of his own. His solo work is what brought him to town for the 3rd annual MusicNOW festival here in Cincinnati. Glenn joined us in the WOXY.com Lounge for a special Guest DJ set where he spins some artists that he loves and has inspired his own work, as well as some of his own music.

Joe and Glenn chat about MusicNOW, Glenn’s seemingly crazy schedule, his commissioned piece for the Kronos Quartet, and a few other items in the interview as well.

Also included in his set was an unreleased song from Sufjan Stevens, and a B-Side from “Boxer”, the upcoming album from The National. See below for some photos and the tracklisting.
