Thats Soooo 97X – On Demand
Over our 26 year history, 97X / WOXY.com has spun literally thousands of bands and songs that you simply
wouldn’t hear anywhere else. Many, in fact, broke through to listeners and became hits that were truly unique to the station. I mean, where else were you going to hear “The Sweater”, “Rebirth Of The Cool”, “Sci-Fi Wasabi”, “Get On The Bus”? Exactly!
So, we put together this special edition of the WOXY Vintage program to feature a sampling of those special songs & bands that can only be associated with the FM days of The Future of Rock & Roll. They may not have been hits anywhere else but sure rocked our world at 97.7 FM. We also tossed some old commercials from longtime 97X advertisers Jungle Jim’s, Everybody’s Records, Scentiments/Rock City, Oxford Kroger, and the Rock & Roll Grocery himself, Frank Eavey, into the mix. We’ll also put the ‘”GEE!” in Ecology’ and hear Bake “save, save, save, save, save, save” with 97Xtra Cash Coupons. These audio extras haven’t been heard anywhere in years.
In all, That’s Soooo 97X is a love letter to longtime listeners. Listen & enjoy a stroll down 5120 College Corner Pike. BAM!

The one I would have added is “Everyone Wants to be My Sister” by The Libertines. 97X made that band in 1985-86? I remember going to Oxford to a show, and everyone sang that song when they played it because we’d been listening to it on the radio. Thx for the memories.

97x stopped being cool at the end of the 80s when they reprogrammed and started controlling what everyone played. my fave dj of all time was robin plan, who gave me an amazing musical education when i tuned in to 97x from my northwestern cincinnati suburb. here is her blog about that time period in the late 80s, early 90s: http://writhesafely.wordpress.com/2008/08/24/revolution-come-and-gone/
