Even More New Music – John Vanderslice – Romanian Names

One of the true “good guys” in the indie rock scene is John Vanderslice. John is known as one of the most generous, easy to talk to musicians you will ever meet that can also sell out a venue. And usually, this does not lend itself well to “good” music, but that is just the opposite with John, who like fine wine, seems to get better with age.

John’s latest album, Romanian Names, is his first for Dead Oceans Records, and his seventh overall, and could possibly be his best to date. The record capitalizes on everything that you already love about Vanderslice’s songwriting and voice and takes things up a notch with stellar production (once again by Scott Solter at JV’s Tiny Telephone Studios) and a catchy pop sensibility that should not be overlooked.

I read that John wanted the songs on Romanian Names to be “shorter, faster songs that were all about the melody lines” and that is evident on some of the most addicting tunes on the record. Have a listen to one of those right now, “Fetal Horses” and get ready for the full length to be released on May 19th.
