It has been quite a journey for Emil Svanängen, the man behind Loney Dear, since he was selling his album out of the back of his vehicle in his homeland of Sweden years ago. In the time since, Emil was discovered by an audience here in the US, released a great album for Sub Pop, re-released one of his previous albums and then jumped to Polyvinyl Records for his most recent album, Dear John.

We have been fans of his work ever since his US debut, Loney Noir and were pleased to host him at EAR studios during SXSW 2009. Emil and the other two who fill out Loney Dear’s current incarnation were one of our early morning sessions and despite being behind on sleep and breakfast, they performed for us like the true professionals that they are.
