With Mason Proper’s terrific second album, the words Olly Oxen Free become much more than a schoolyard chant. This talented group of musicians from Michigan have pushed things forward for their sophomore set and created some of the year’s most memorable tunes. As much as we all enjoyed their debut around these parts (it was our #32 most-played album of 2006), this new record is even better.

The band have been working hard and will be hitting the road this fall for more dates with their pals Cloud Cult and will be playing during the CMJ festival later this month in NYC. They’ve also recently completed a sharp (and somewhat creepy!) video for “Lock and Key” that is debuting on MTV2’s Subterranean on October 23rd so set your DVR!
