Rebecca Scott and Brian Cook formed Panda Riot back in 2005 when they were both living in Philadelphia. Last fall, grad school took Rebecca to Chicago and they continued the band in the Windy City while adding Justin Cheng to the lineup.
The band’s self-titled debut She Dares All Things has been getting some good spins here at the station over the past few months. They are one of a small handful of artists who are currently exploring shoegazing territory successfully and we’re ready for more.
This session features one new track and a handful of tunes from She Dares All Things.

Every summer there are certain songs or albums that just sound better during the warm weather months here in the Midwest. Whether it is something that demands you roll down your car windows while playing, or just a record that makes the room a bit warmer as you listen. One of those bands that warms up their surroundings is The Broken West, out of Los Angeles, where it just happens to be pretty warm all year round.
The band are getting ready to release their second album since shedding the band name The Brokedown and being signed to Merge Records. The new record is titled Now Or Heaven and although the release date is not until after the temperature here in middle American begins to dip, they have generously given us a song from the record to whet your appetite in the meantime.
And we here at WOXY.com are excited that the first song, and another from the great session The Broken West did for us last fall are turning up on the new album. So we can double your Broken West fix right now with these two songs, which will be on the new record, Now Or Heaven, due out in September from Merge Records.
And if you tune on Thursday June 18th at 8pm ET to WOXY.com, you can listen in to a special Forecastle Festival preview show that features many of the bands playing the festival, as well as an interview I did with festival organizer J.K. McKnight.
So join me tonight night at 8pm as we preview the Forecastle Festival on WOXY.com!
Just a reminder for all of you Artrocker Radio fans out there that we have a brand new episode from London to bring you tonight on WOXY.com. As usual, the show airs from 6pm ET till 7:30 and showcases what is hot across the pond.
If you missed out on last weeks episode, you can listen to it now below, have a look and listen….
Well, I put out a call for great Wear Your WOXY photos about a week ago, and you guys did not hold up your end of the bargain very well. I did get these two great shots though, and am happy to share. However, I expect some pics of you guys in your new WOXY shirts etc very soon…..:)
Here is a great shot of listeners Cristin and Pushkar with the backdrop of Udaipur, India in the background. Thanks for sending this one in, from the Worldwide Future of Rock N Roll!
I would not normally accept a car wearing its WOXY, but something about this shot in front of the cheese house and listener Josh, apparently, has also named his car, Floyd. Yes, you read that right. The picture was taken in front of Ehlenbach’s Cheese Chalet in De Forest, Wisconsin. Thanks Josh, and Floyd….
Don’t forget, Mates of State will be in the Lounge this afternoon for what promises to be a great set. The husband and wife duo have just released their 5th long player on the Barsuk label and we have really been enjoying it so far here at WOXY.com. The band are playing tonight here in the Cincinnati are as well at the Southgate House in Newport.
So be sure to tune in today at around 1pm for the Lounge Act performance from Mates Of State.
In the meantime, enjoy the video for “Get Better” a song off of the new album, Re-Arrange Us.
