It’s been an eventful year for The Little Ones. Since their SXSW ‘07 session with us, the band have gotten a new drummer, recorded a new album, been dropped by their label, and are now back to running things themselves through the Branches Recording Collective.
Their full-length debut, Morning Tide, should be coming out later this summer. In the meantime, the guys hit the road with our friends Ra Ra Riot to support their new Terry Tales & Fallen Gates EP.
In this session, you’ll hear 4 songs from the EP along with “Ordinary Song”, the first single from their forthcoming album.
Some breaking news of out of the WOXY.com camp this morning as we just confirmed a special guest DJ set with Kim and Kelley Deal of The Breeders! Shiv just posted this confirmation note on the homepage….
I’m pleased to announce that Kim & Kelley Deal of The Breeders are going to drop by the studio on Monday afternoon to hang out and select some of their favorite tunes. They are on a quick break from their worldwide tour to support the new “Mountain Battles” release.
Tune in Monday, May 19th around 3:30pm eastern when the Deal sisters take over The Future Of Rock And Roll!
I can’t prove it, but I think that maybe Mother Nature decided that she wanted Seattle-based Velella Velella to feel at home in Cincinnati. After a series of days that almost felt like summer, by the time VV rolled into the Lounge, it was grey, dreary, and cold outside.
It’s a good thing that this is a band that travels with a lot of energy and even more equipment. The studio filled up with more cool instruments, gadgets, and cables than you could imagine. Once they start playing, Velella Velella create the kind of indie dance jams that could melt the polar ice caps.
After you listen to this session, you should make it your mission to see this band live at any cost. Seattle residents will be able to catch them at the Capitol Hill Block Party and the Bumbershoot festival this summer. No matter where you are, you can enjoy this excellent set of tunes comprised mostly of cuts from the Flight Cub EP.

We were first introduced to this San Francisco band in the fall of 2005 when they submitted tracks to our ‘Unsigned’ program. Since that time, the band’s lineup has slightly shifted (officially losing a keyboardist and strings) and they released an EP and 7″ single.
This Spring has finally seen the release of the band’s self-titled debut album. In early 2007. the band previewed a few of their new tunes in a Lounge Act session we hosted on their home turf in San Fran. Now. while on their first trek across the midwest and east coast, Finest Dearest hit up our Cincinnati studios for a terrific session that features some more new tunes from their debut record.

Austin’s Okkervil River released their 4th full-length album, The Stage Names, last summer. It garnered massive critical acclaim and enough airplay here on WOXY to hit #10 on our 97 Best Of 2007 countdown.
We were excited to grab Will Sheff and his band in the Lounge right after they finished a very successful tour with The New Pornographers. With a lineup that currently includes Charles Bissell from The Wrens, the band served up a set that includes some old favorites and even a brand new tune.
In the interview with Joe, it is revealed that “Lost Coastlines” will be released on an appendix release for The Stage Names which should be out later this year.

It Ends With A Fall
Ra Ra Riot have spent damn near all of 2008 thus far on the road here in the U.S. They joined us in the Lounge back in late January for an extended Lounge Act session that included quite a few new tunes. Since that time, they played about 105 times during SXSW this year, hit the road with The Cribs, and now are finishing up a fairly lengthy North American tour with The Little Ones.
For those of you on the west coast who want to see Ra Ra Riot play live, this is going to be your last chance until the fall. The band are going to take a little bit of time off for the summer to rest before their debut full-length album comes out later this year. The next major tour for the band will likely be in September, but if you live in Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, or Los Angeles you don’t have to wait that long.

Have a look at the details behind last week’s new episode of Local Lixx below. Also feel free to download it or stream it right now…..
05/01 – Episode #18
This new episode of Local Lixx highlights music from the sophomore album from Peter Adams. Adams is a Cincinnati singer songwriter who is starting to get some national buzz. Check out a song from his new album, I Woke With Planets In My Face, in addition to several other great local goodies as well in this episode.
As you likely know, we’ve been in cahoots with the folks over at Lala.com for some time now, and they’ve been hard at work on a new beta site that focuses on music listening and exploration. It’s definitely worth checking out, and we have some invites to check out the beta for those who are interested.
In a nutshell, the new Lala beta allows you to browse their growing catalog and listen to any song full-length. The first listen is free and you can then add the song to your online collection for 10 cents to get unlimited listening (the first 50 songs are gratis). You can also buy (cheap) CDs or MP3 versions if you’re into that, and even quickly add your existing MP3s to your online collection for free. Yup, all from a standard web browser which means you can access your online collection from anywhere.
They’re still building out the catalog and have been adding a ton of new albums every day plus expect a huge new influx of music from indie labels in the weeks to come. Just as an example, right now you can listen to the new albums from Elbow, The Kills, Gnarls Barkley, The Black Keys and many others.
To snag a beta invite, shoot an email to bryan@woxy.com with the following info:
1) Your name
2) Your email address
3) Are you a current Lala user?
Life on the road is a constant for this band. When we did finally catch up with them, they were finishing up the remaining dates of a tour with Carbon/Silicon. During the interview, Matt talks about the thrill of touring with legendary musicians like Mick Jones and Tony James.
We also talk a little bit about the ups and downs of such a transient lifestyle. After all, one minute you’re hanging out with a former member of the Clash and the next moment, two members of your band are being held up at gunpoint (which had actually just happened the night before our session). Luckily, everybody was safe and sound and for Matt Pond PA, the good experiences have far outweighed the bad.
In this set you’ll hear several tunes from Last Light, their most recent cd.
