CMJ 2007 Recap Podcast #1
During CMJ week, Bryan Jay and I camped out at the Gothamist House for a 4-day live broadcast. After seeing the lineups that
Gothamist hosted during CMJ 2006, it was a no-brainer for us to get involved in the event this year. We want to send a round of thanks to all of the musicians who played, Jen Carlson @ Gothamist for getting us involved, and the staff of White Rabbit who made the week a lot of fun.
We took over White Rabbit from Wednesday-Saturday and had an incredible lineup of bands and artists take the stage. White Rabbit is not typically a music venue, so a small stage had to be setup each day and all of the bands had to either strip down their sets or get creative to make things fit. More often than not, it felt like watching a band play in your best friend’s living room and there was a great vibe throughout the week.
This is the first in a series of podcasts I am putting together to spotlight the performances from each day. It is worth noting that this was quite a guerilla broadcast — Bryan Jay tapped into the bar’s somewhat spotty internet access and streamed directly from a laptop. I have picked the best recordings from each day, but we do not have high quality audio for each and every performance of the week. In fact, it was a little heartbreaking to find certain songs that I was DYING to use in the podcasts that had various technical glithces and snafus rendering them unusable! We still got a lot of great tracks and I hope that you’ll enjoy listening to them.

Argh! I probably fucked that up because I had intended to ALSO include “Foxes” but it ended up being one of those tracks that was perfect except for one nasty glitch and I couldn’t use it…but I forgot to correct my breaks.
