Following a tide of critical acclaim and numerous appearances on nearly every layin low compilation since the beginning of the record, Groove Armada's Goodbye Country (Hello Nightclub) has some big shoes to fill. Vertigo, released in February 2000, was a huge success, critically and commercially, with hits like "If Everybody Looked the Same" and the sun-drenched "At the River." Having found comfort in downbeat, Groove Armada explore the style even further on Hello Country while at the same time staying true to the two-man, sampling style with fun, funky tracks like "Superstylin'".

Some five years ago, Andy Cato and Tom Findlay met and discovered a shared love of jazz, funk, disco and real house. The idea for the recorded Groove Armada project surfaced. They holed up in a cottage in the Lake District with sequencers, samplers and a many other instruments and recorded the critically acclaimed album Northern Star, nominated best new artist album by Muzik magazine.

Goodbye Country is another musical triumph for Groove Armada, with every track as good as the one before. Still, it's a shame they veer so strongly in a downbeat direction, as they mostly leave behind the unpredictable house style that is the thesis of earlier work.
