Dirty Beatniks was formed by two friends, mutual fans of acid house: Neil Higgins and Rory Carille. The two met in Dublin in the late-80's. After moving to London in 1990, they met up with bassist / producer Justin Underhill and began remixing for various artists. The Beatniks released an EP, Bridging the Gap, and a full length, One One Seven in the Shade, in 1996 on Wall of Sound. Wall of Sound is a London-based independent label known for beat recordings.
The Beatniks began keeping company with the Propellerheads, Monkey Mafia and other groups ruling the beat terrain. The EP and full-length were popular in dance clubs.
The Dirty Beatniks went through a number of people changes, and along the way made it a mission to reinvent dance music. The sound went from "just fun" to a dark disco hip-hop thing. They're now a duo of Higgins and new member Mau. Feedback came out in 2000.
