lovelikefire dj set - monday at 3pm

Submitted by: mike

Tune in Monday at 3pm when we let our friends LoveLikeFire take over the airwaves to pick a few tunes and chat with Shiv about their current tour and upcoming full-length debut on Britain's Heist Or Hit Records. They're in town to play show Monday night at Northside Tavern.

Being big fans, we've already done a lot with the San Francisco-based quartet. First, a session recorded in their hometown early last year, followed by a Lounge Act here in Cincinnati, and then at SXSW in March. Oh, and they played our stage at Monolith last month, too.

xtrabeats -- 10/10

Submitted by: shivvy
It's an all-new episode of XTRABEATS this weekend. I'll be serving up two hours of new club remixes and tracks from the electronic underground. Tune in for cuts from YELLE, KID SISTER, AC SLATER, THE HERBALISER, and CSS. I've also got a killer DJ mix from the Netherlands-based production trio of NOISIA that features some of the deepest, darkest drum 'n' bass I've heard in a long time.

It airs tonight from 8-10pm (eastern) and encores Saturday night from 10-Midnight. Check out on-demand streams of recent episodes in the archives here.

The rumours are true! The National and The Breeders, two bands with local ties, will team up for a FREE show, Thursday, October 16th on Cincinnati's Fountain Square.

Vote Early Rock Late is a Vote Obama Rally and will run from 5-9pm, featuring guest speakers in addition to performances by both bands. Additionally, buses will be shuttling registered voters (I.D. required) to the Hamilton County Election Center so participants can cast their ballot, since early voting will be underway.

SO...The National. The Breeders. FREE! See you there!

UPDATE: Members of The National will drop into the studio on Thursday morning around 11am to talk to Mike a little bit about the event!

this week's artrocker radio show

Submitted by: mike

Wednesdays at 6pm, we turn things over to our friends at London's Artrocker magazine for 90 minutes of some of the latest music that's buzzing in the UK underground. Your host, Paul Artrocker, co-founded the legendary Too Pure label, so he knows a thing or two about discovering new talent.

It's an all new edition this week with the spotlight falling on the new CD from THE GRATES, Teeth Lost, Hearts Won. Also, the latest from LOVVERS, METRONOMY, FIGHT LIKE APES, another track from nu-goths Project: KOMAKINO, and an introduction to THE PEPPERMINT HUNTING LODGE.

If you miss it, you can always catch each week's show on its repeat Saturday night at 6, or listen whenever you like on-demand via the Artrocker page from the WOXY website.

the future of rock and roll turns 25

Submitted by: shivvy
We're coming up on a pretty extraordinary milestone here at The Future Of Rock And Roll. On Labor Day weekend back in 1983, Doug & Linda Balogh flipped the switch on an FM radio station up in Oxford, Ohio. They sent over the following message to share with WOXY fans past and present and we'd like to share it with you.

25 years ago this weekend, U2's "Sunday Bloody Sunday" birthed the beginning of a dream ... 97X. A couple of decades later many of you listened to Steve Baker's eloquent final paragraph at midnight on May 13, 2004, when we closed the chapter on the "radio station."

We lived the American Dream for 23 years, working alongside so many talented, dedicated people who shared the passion ... too many to mention, but you know who you are! Little David did show Goliath that BIG isn't always better.

We want to say THANK YOU to the 97X People ~ staff and listeners ~ who forged that common bond of loyalty to the music. Dare To Dream, Dare To Do. A heartfelt standing ovation to you all.

BAM! ~ Doug and Linda Balogh, from retirement

P.S. We're soooooo glad and proud that The Music continues ~ with the same ethos ~ via woxy.com.

[this just in] on the futurist

Submitted by: mike

We've added a new regular feature to The Futurist, [This Just In], where a WOXY.com DJ gives their thoughts on a record that has recently been added to our current rotation. Expect to be introduced to new artists alongside our takes on the latest efforts from those you may already be familiar with. We'll even throw in an MP3 or a video for you to check out if we can get our hands on one. Joe's already posted introductions to two new artists he's just discovered, HORSE FEATHERS and KRISTOFFER RAGNSTAM, while Shiv raves about GENTLEMAN AUCTION HOUSE. Check it out!
